This event, organized by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), provided an excellent platform for Australian tech scaleups to engage with Vietnam’s vibrant startup ecosystem, gain valuable insights into market trends, and explore partnership opportunities with local industry leaders. 🎤 It was our honor as Ms. Tra Hoang, Partner at VSV Capital, delivered an engaging session titled “Startup Ecosystem and Business Opportunities in Vietnam from a VC’s Point of View”. She highlighted Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and its emergence as a key player in the global innovation landscape, and traced the impressive growth of Vietnam’s startup ecosystem over the past decade, showcasing its transformation into a thriving hub fueled by increasing venture capital activity and entrepreneurial energy. Ms. Tra additionally shared valuable recommendations for market entrants, highlighting the importance of joining key annual startup events, exploring the three main business hubs in Vietnam, and partnering with a trusted local collaborator. Her session gave attendees a clear understanding of the opportunities and strategies for success in Vietnam’s dynamic startup ecosystem. 🚀 The event also featured a pitching session, where Australian tech scaleups presented their innovative solutions to local investors. This was followed by a lively networking session, enabling participants to engage in meaningful conversations and explore opportunities for collaboration. 🌏 Ahead of their arrival in Vietnam, the delegation participated in an online session titled "Doing Business in Vietnam: Through the Eyes of a Viet Kieu", hosted by VSV’s Venture Partner, Ms. Chrystie Dao. Drawing from her experiences as a Vietnamese resident, she shared compelling stories and observations about conducting business in Vietnam, offering the delegation valuable insights into the country’s business environment, helping them prepare for their in-market immersion. 🤝 We extend our gratitude to Austrade for organizing this impactful program and to all participants who contributed to its success. It was a day full of ambition and collaboration as each founder took the stage, fielding insightful questions and comments from our esteemed judges. 🎤 In her opening remarks, Ms. Chrystie Dao - Venture Partner at VSV Capital and Managing Director at VSV Foundation, highlighted the unique opportunity Vietnam holds for fintech, calling it “A rapidly evolving market with immense potential, a young and tech-savvy population, and an appetite for innovative financial solutions”. She encouraged startups to “see Vietnam as a dynamic landscape full of opportunities for those with bold visions”, setting the tone for an energetic Demo Day. Wrapping up the day, Mr. Sung-Ku “Gibs” Song - General Partner at VSV Capital, left everyone with a powerful reminder: “Don’t give up. Trust your instincts. Startups can fail and will fail, but if you fail for the right reasons, your efforts will always bring you closer to success”. Reflecting on the program’s five-month journey together, he reminded everyone that the Demo Day marks the end of the program but only the beginning of each founder’s journey ahead. 🌟 A special moment came when Mr. Jeon Young Min - CEO of Lotte Ventures, a long-term partner of VSV, announced that just last month, Lotte Ventures has created Vietnam’s first foreign-invested, Vietnam-exclusive startup investment fund. This was unprecedented in Vietnam, requiring almost two years for review and approval. This fund also represents their long-term commitment to supporting Vietnamese startups and will likely set the stage for more global funds to back innovation in Vietnam. 👏 As we close the chapter on the 2024 GMEP Demo Day, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated judges for their invaluable insights. It was a day filled with meaningful exchanges and powerful insights, providing our startups with the chance to explore new perspectives, fine-tune their pitches, and discover new potential customer segments. 🌟 Throughout the day, each startup participated in interactive format panels, followed by a detailed feedback segment from the mentors. This structured approach wasn’t just about presenting ideas; it was about facilitating deeper engagement, when our mentors, coming from a diverse range of fields and backgrounds, challenged the founders to think beyond their current strategies and explore untapped opportunities. 👥 The main takeaway for our startups was how crucial it is to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. Repeating their pitches to different panels helped them refine their messaging, focus on their business value propositions, and become more confident in articulating their vision. We hope they are now equipped with sharper presentations and a clearer understanding of where they need to steer their ventures next. ✨ We are immensely grateful to our dedicated mentors, who generously offered their time and expertise, and to our resilient startups, who approached each session with an open mind and a drive to learn. This event marked the culmination of months of hard work, dedication, and growth for 15 outstanding startups who have been part of an incredible journey in Vietnam with our program.  🚀 The atmosphere was electric as each startup delivered compelling pitches, demonstrating their potential to make a significant impact in sectors like AI, Fintech, Healthtech, and more. Their presentations reflected their growth, driven by mentorship, market insights, and feedback from our mentors.
