Apple is heavily invested in bringing generative AI technology to its line of products. It was previously reported that the company talked with OpenAI, Google, and China's Baidu for the integration of their AI utilities into its platforms. It is now being reported that the company has reached an agreement with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT features to Siri and iOS 18.

iOS 18 will be the biggest update the iPhone has ever received, and the reason is Apple's big jump in AI. The company is exploring various large language models and tools that will be implemented in various parts of the operating system, like Siri and stock apps. The latest report from Bloomberg is that Apple is finalizing an agreement with OpenAI to bring some of its technology to the iPhone. The source also mentions that the technology will be available later this year.

With the new partnership, Apple will offer a chatbot with iOS 18, which will be available on all compatible iPhone models. The chatbot will be powered by ChatGPT, which clearly indicates that Siri is getting a major facelift. Apple was originally expected to ditch an AI-powered chatbot, but it appears that earlier claims have been nullified.

While there is no certainty, a tipster stated on X that "Apple has closed an agreement with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its devices enhancing Siri's capabilities." Note that the tweet was deleted after a short while. It remains to be seen if the two companies will work together to make Siri an advanced digital assistant that users have been demanding for years.

Apple is still in talks with Google for a partnership as well, possibly alongside a potential agreement with OpenAI. Apart from the possible integration of a chatbot, extensive details related to the feature set are scarce at this stage.

The two sides have been finalizing terms for a pact to use ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the situation is private. Apple also has held talks with Alphabet Inc.’s Google about licensing that company’s Gemini chatbot. Those discussions haven’t led to an agreement, but are ongoing.

Apple may showcase its AI efforts next month at its WWDC event. The event will take place on June 10, and the company will announce iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, macOS 15, visionOS 2, and tvOS 18. However, the highlight of the event will be the AI changes coming with the release of iOS 18 later this year.
