Apple Finally Unveils Its Advanced Generative Personal AI ‘Apple Intelligence’ For iPhone, iPad, And Mac

Ali Salman

Apple announced a plethora of software updates for its devices at the WWDC event, and one of the most prominent and highly anticipated announcements was the Apple Intelligence features. Apple's personal generative AI technology will be available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 later this year. The technology will open doors to new features and work its way to better compete against the industry.

Apple Intelligence is the company's personal generative AI technology available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac that understands commands, images, and context

The Apple Intelligence is powered by the company's large language models, allowing your device to understand natural language commands, images, actions, and context based on your prompts. Apple has implemented advanced AI algorithms throughout the system and productivity apps, such as Notes, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, and more.

Apple Intelligence can also understand a user's personal data and anything that is on the screen to better suggest results for queries. The feature works on devices with processors capable of handling on-device processing such as the iPhone 15 Pro and Macs with at least an M1 chip. The algorithms are designed to understand and respond to your data but without collecting it, giving Apple's privacy another win.

When Apple Intelligence requires additional power, it will send the data to cloud servers, which are designed with Apple Silicon to handle processing. The servers share the same privacy protocols as on-device processing, which means that none of your data will be collected. While Apple Intelligence rests across the board in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15, one of the key players dealing with the technology is Siri.

Siri can now understand prompts much better than before, with the ability to understand relevant context, respond more naturally, and take into account your personal data without collecting it. The assistant now converses with the user in a natural tone and has the ability to make corrections in real time. Additionally, Apple will introduce a feature in the future that will allow Siri to have on-screen awareness. This means that Siri will be able to identify and dictate what is happening on the screen of your device without requiring additional information. Ultimately, Siri will be able to take actions in stock as well as third-party apps, but the feature will take time to standardize.

Apple Intelligence is part of various aspects of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15. The advanced AI will also be available on the Photos app for better editing. Siri will use the technology to make corrections with a feature called Rewrite, which adjusts the tone and proofreads inline text in the Mail and other apps; we will be covering Apple intelligence and the features it is tied to later on, so be sure to stick around.
