While the annual Pixel event is usually held in October/November each year, Google has different plans this time around. The company surprised everyone by announcing an early event and changing the previous pattern by choosing the August 13 event date for the Pixel 9 and the Pixel Watch 3 announcements.
Made by Google 2024 will now be taking place on August 13th at the company's headquarters, Pixel 8 series and much more are expected
Google has already caused quite the buzz with its morning announcement that it is pivoting for an early Pixel hardware event this year. The location is not New York City, as previous reports speculated. Instead, the company will host the event at its own headquarters in Mountain View, California.
Previous Made by Google events were organized in San Francisco, but going for a different location would be afresh, given how we are seeing some new changes coming to the 2024 event. The keynote would start at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET. The invite announcement is usually rolled out when the event date is close to hand, but this time, that has also changed. The invites are already being sent out approximately one and a half months before the event. The company announced the invites a month before the event last year. The invites being sent out now are focused on Android, Pixel, and the newly added AI-infused capabilities.
Last year's Made by Google event included major releases, including the Pixel 8, Pixel Watch 2, and the AI features added to the Google Assistant. One of the most hyped upcoming products this year is the Pixel 9 and the Pixel Watch 3. The Pixel 9 will be accompanied by the Pixel 9 Pro, which will come in two sizes.
We are also expecting a Pixel 9 Pro Fold this year, and speculations regarding the Pixel Buds Pro 2's roll-out have also been making the rounds. The Pixel Watch 3 is said to follow a similar design to its predecessors and would come in two sizes: 41mm and a larger 45mm variant. You can check out more details on the event here.
Google did not mention any reason for moving the date behind, but it could be that the pre-event reports tend to give away quite a lot about the Pixel series, and this could be the company's attempt to combat the leaks before the reveal. It could be that Google is choosing 2024 to be a year of surprises, and we could see more changes as the event gets closer.
