iPhone 16 retail case video leak shows design

Apple's next-generation iPhone 16 lineup is coined to be a significant upgrade over the current models, and part of the reason is its design and performance capabilities. We are almost three months away from the launch of the flagship models, and details related to the design and feature set keep pouring in. The iPhone 16 is speculated to come with a new vertical camera layout, buttons, and much more. Visual details of the device are highlighted in a new retail case video, which shows the standard iPhone 16 dimensions from all sides, giving you a clear idea of what you should be looking forward to.

The current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus sport a diagonal layout for the camera sensors on the back, and it appears that the company is looking to revert back to its older format. As you can see in the video embedded below (via IceUniverse), Apple is looking to shift to the vertical camera layout on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models, which resembles the iPhone X but with bigger sensors. It can be observed that the device will feature a bigger camera housing with the microphone positioned inside the plateau. Unlike 'Pro' models, the flash module will be situated outside of the housing.

Besides the camera layout, the retail case also shows a cutout below the Power or Side button. We believe that the cutout will be used for the rumored Capture Button, which is designed to respond to the device's video-taking capabilities. Since the button will be capacitive, it makes sense to leave a cutout rather than a fully functional mechanical button. The Capture Button will be available on all four models of the iPhone 16, as Apple wants users to create more Spatial Videos for the Vision Pro.

Other than this, the retail case video also shows another button over the Volume buttons, eliminating the Mute Switch. Apple will possibly replace the Mute Switch on the iPhone 16 with an Action Button, similar to the one found on the iPhone 15 Pro models. It will potentially house all the controls as the 'Pro' models, including the new ones added in iOS 18.

Design aspect aside, the iPhone 16 will also come with an improved A18 chip, with a powerful Neural Engine to handle the new Apple Intelligence features coming later this year with iOS 18. As mentioned, we are still three months away from launch, and the company could see fit to have different plans for the device, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt.
