The M4 was introduced with Apple’s 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models, but the company has a more broadened strategy for the same SoC found in various Macs. In fact, one report states that it will be the first time that the company brings the M4 to its entire Mac family, and that includes the exceptionally powerful desktops.
New Mac Pro and Mac Studio reportedly arriving in the second half of 2025, will likely feature the significantly powerful M4 Ultra
The updated MacBook Pro models rumored to arrive in Q4 2024 will likely be Apple’s first Mac members to be treated to the M4. Just like last year, the technology giant is expected to announce a trio of portable computers, starting with the base 14-inch model, followed by the slightly powerful version with the same display size and a bigger 16-inch variant. As for the rest of the lineup, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has provided an update below regarding the launches and states that the Mac Pro and Mac Studio will be unveiled and feature the newest Apple Silicon.
“There’s been speculation online about when to expect the M4 Mac line, which I first discussed months ago. After checking around, I don’t see a change in schedule. The M4 iMacs, MacBook Pros (low- and high-end versions) and Mac minis (low- and high-end models as well) are due between the end of 2024 and early 2025. New MacBook Airs are coming in the spring of 2025, and the Mac Pro and Mac Studio models will arrive around the second half of next year. This will mark the first time Apple is bringing a new chip family to every Mac it makes. The move follows the addition of the M4 to the iPad Pro in May.”
Earlier, we reported that both the Mac Pro and Mac Studio were being planned with the M4 Ultra, hinting that we will see the M4 Pro and M4 Max before the M4 Ultra’s arrival. While we do not have any rumored or estimated performance figures at this time, the M4’s capabilities certainly have us excited for future launches. Given that the 10-core CPU version of the 3nm SoC easily beats the competition, like the Snapdragon X Elite and M3 Pro, in both single-core and multi-core results while being up to 45 percent faster than the M2 and M3 in Geekbench 6.
Additionally, the 9-core CPU member does not have its performance throttled either, as it can perform close to the 10-core version. Given that the new MacBook Pro models will have a beefier cooling solution, it is possible that Apple tweaks the M4 to run at higher clock speeds and deliver an even higher single-core and multi-core score. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for the official launch later this year to find out.
