Maxsun went all-in on the MoTD "Mobile on Desktop" motherboard designs with new Intel & AMD options showcased at Computex.
Maxsun Has A Wide Range of Intel & AMD "MoTD" Motherboards In The Works Featuring Current-Gen & Next-Gen CPUs
We managed to get a close-up of Maxsun's full MoTD (Mobile on Desktop) motherboards during our visit of their booth. The company currently has several designs based on current-gen Intel & AMD CPUs such as Raptor Lake (13th/14th Gen), Meteor Lake (Core Ultra 100) and AMD's Ryzen Hawk Point (8040 series) but the company also told us that they are planning to launch new and updated designs later this year featuring Intel's Core Ultra 200(V) Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake & AMD Ryzen AI 300 "Strix Point" chips.
The MoTD segment has picked up lots of momentum in recent years with major OEMs now offering these designs as DIY or pre-built solutions for gaming PCs. These designs simply take mobility chips and infuse them on desktop-grade motherboards, offering good value and a great set of features while keeping the cost at a minimum. Furthermore, these mobility chips also run very efficient while offering similar performance as desktop offerings.
Currently, Maxsun's lineup starts with the SK Thin Mini H45-AIO T2V which features the Intel Core i7-13620H CPU which offers 10 cores (6+4), 16 threads, a boost clock of up to 4.90 GHz, and a TDP that ranges between 35W-115W. This motherboard comes in a 170x170mm ITX form factor & has dual DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, a Gen3x4 M.2 slot, 1 SATA slot, 4 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports & receives power through a 12V/19V DC Jack. The motherboard also features a 4-pin connector.
Maxsun also has the higher-end Intel Core i7-14650HX option in its SK-HM770-B MoTD board which packs 16 cores (8+8), 24 threads, up to 5.2 GHz clocks, 30 MB of cache, and TDP ranging from 55 to 157W. This is a slightly bigger ITX design, measuring 190x190mm and features expanded features on the IO such as 2 Gen4x4 M.2 slots, 4 SATA slots, a full-length PCIe x16 and PCIe x1 slot, 4 USB 3.2 Gen1, 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI Type-C and a standard 24-pin plus 8-pin CPU connector interface. The CPU is rated at a TDP of up to 90W.
Next up, we have Maxsun's latest SK-Thin mini MTL-AIO T1 155H MoTD motherboard design which comes packed with Intel's Core Ultra 7 155H CPU, offering 16 cores (6+8), 22 threads, up to 4.8 GHz clock speeds, up to 24 MB cache and a TDP ranging from 20-115W (45W default). This motherboard has a very similar design to the 13th Gen option we just mentioned above.
Maxsun doesn't stops at Intel as they also have a few AMD options in the works, most notably the SK-Thin mini 8840HS-AIO T1 which is a 170x170mm ITX form factor motherboard with the Ryzen 7 8840HS, 8 core and 16 thread) APU. This motherboard comes with 2 USB 3.2 Gen1, and 2 USB 2.0 ports and operates at a default TDP of 45W. There's also a single Gen4x4 M.2 slot and a WiFi Key-E slot. Talking to Maxsun, the company stated that these motherboards will be coming out at some really attractive prices under the $400-$500 US segment.
The company will also be expanding its MoTD family with newer Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake, and Strix Point options in late 2024 which will be a boost in terms of both CPU, GPU, and NPU capabilities so stay tuned for those down the road.
