MSI First To Roll Out AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS Update For AM5 Motherboards: Brings AMD Ryzen 9000 CPU Stability & Performance Bug Fixes

MSI has rolled out its new AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS update for AM5 motherboards, which offers AMD Ryzen 9000 CPU enhancements.

Three years ago, we reported the launch of the AMD AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS firmware for the AM4 motherboard family, today, the AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS firmware is being released but this time, it's aimed at the newer AM5 motherboards. This is a different BIOS altogether and includes a range of new fixes and enhancements which we will discuss in the post.

Firstly, we have made a few enhancements to the upcoming AMD Ryzen™ 9000 series CPU, focusing on stability and performance bug fixes. These fixes are to ensure that users will have a smooth and reliable performance with the new CPUs. Additionally, the update includes several compatibility improvements and workaround with NVIDIA's RTX 40 Series graphics cards, especially the 4070 and 4060 GPUs, which were previously causing some instability issues.

Moreover, this BIOS update also includes general bug fixes and optimizations that contribute to the system's overall efficiency. MSI continues to prioritize user satisfaction by regularly providing updates that address issues and enhance performance. Starting with the most obvious one, the AMD AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS update is aimed at the AMD AM5 platform and MSI is rolling out the support for its entire 600-series family which includes X670, B650 and A620 motherboards (Extreme variants also included). MSI says that the BIOS update aims to enhance the overall user experience by addressing several key issues and also offering brand-new improvements.

With the launch of AMD Ryzen 9000 Desktop CPUs imminent next month, the new AGESA BIOS 1.2.0.0 BIOS focuses on improving stability while fixing performance bugs for these next-gen chips based on the Zen 5 core architecture. For those of you planning to upgrade to the Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" CPUs, it is advised to upgrade your MSI AM5 motherboard to the latest BIOS.

In addition to the improved AMD Ryzen 9000 Desktop CPU support, MSI's AMD AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS also adds several compatibility improvements and workarounds with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 & RTX 4060 GPUs which had some instability issues on the platform. The RTX 4070 & the RTX 4060 are two of the most popular choices in the discrete graphics segment so it makes sense why AMD & its partners will offer better support for these SKUs.
