Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Spotted Running In The Upcoming REDMAGIC 9S Pro At The Same Frequencies As Qualcomm’s Overclocked Variant

Qualcomm had introduced a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy version that would exclusively power Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup, boasting higher CPU and GPU clock speeds for that extra performance bump. However, according to the latest benchmark leak, it appears that the San Diego chipset maker is ending that exclusivity, allowing other smartphone makers to pick up the overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. On this occasion, it is the upcoming REDMAGIC 9S Pro that will feature the new silicon, along with other impressive specifications.

Remaining CPU cluster frequencies also match the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s, hinting that Qualcomm is bringing this variant to other brands

On Geekbench 6, the REDMAGIC 9S Pro was spotted with the souped-up Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, allowing the upcoming gaming smartphone to post single-core and multi-core scores of 2,319 and 7,215, respectively. These high scores could be attributed to the chipset’s overclocked frequencies, with the Cortex-X4 running at 3.40GHz instead of 3.30GHz on the regular version, along with bumped up clock speeds for the remaining clusters, which likely contributed to that high multi-core score.

We also noticed that the REDMAGIC 9S Pro was tested with 16GB RAM, which is not unusual, considering that the REDMAGIC 9 Pro featured a top-end model sporting the same amount of memory. What is interesting about this leak is seeing the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 running in a flagship that Samsung does not make. This leads us to believe that the partnership between Qualcomm and Samsung could be timed exclusive, where after a few months, the chipset manufacturer will have complete freedom to sell its slightly powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to its other partners under a different name.

We can see the same strategy followed for the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will only benefit Qualcomm as it can charge its phone partners a premium if they want to give their ‘cream of the crop’ flagships slightly more performance than the regular versions. With the REDMAGIC 9S Pro likely equipped with a beefy vapor chamber, we expect the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to hold up well regarding thermals, but it will cost you a hefty sum. If you are hunting for an Android flagship sporting the same SoC, but will not cost you an arm or a leg, the REDMAGIC 9 Pro can be yours from Amazon, starting from $749.99.
