The update comes exclusively from Entertainment Weekly, who were able to confirm that Swift will not be in the film releasing next month.

Swift was long rumored to appear in “Deadpool and Wolverine” as the superheroine Dazzler, who is most often associated with the X-Men. The idea of Swift in a Marvel film originated back in the era of the X-Men franchise when a post shared on X (then Twitter) by Simon Kinberg, writer for “X-Men: Apocalypse,” included a photo of Swift hanging out with members of the cast.

Kinberg later confirmed to MTV News that Swift was never involved in the film and that the photo was taken backstage at one of her concerts.

In 2023, Erik Davis of Rotten Tomatoes reignited speculation when he shared that he had a conversation with President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige, in which Feige shared that he is a “big fan” of Dazzler and would focus on that character should he ever direct a Marvel Studios feature film.

These rumors continued when Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman — Deadpool and Wolverine themselves — later attended one of the Kansas City Chiefs NFL games with film director Shawn Levy and Swift; Swift’s boyfriend is Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Reynolds and his wife, actor Blake Lively, are also close friends of Swift’s.

Levy and Reynolds also contributed to the rumors by playing coy in interviews, not directly confirming or denying that Swift was involved when asked.

I regret that I was not quicker to shut it down the first time, so I’m going to default to my very true situation, which is as much as we love each other, the fear of death is so intense in me regarding Ryan and how he desperately wants to avoid talking about all of these proliferating rumors.

Reynolds shared a similar sentiment to Fandango in May, citing that “straight up dishonesty isn’t in the cards”:

Movies like this, there’s so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film. I saw one that was convinced Elvis was in the movie. Anything can happen and that’s sort of what I love about this universe. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool.

“Deadpool and Wolverine” hits theaters on July 26. It will be Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film. Check out the official trailer:
