The Brain Charity
The Brain Charity helps people with all forms of neurological condition to lead longer, healthier, happier lives.
There are more than 600 conditions affecting the brain, spine and nervous system. We provide practical help, emotional support and social activities for every single one.
Our most precious memories, hidden dreams and the thousands of subtle differences that make us who we are, are all housed in one amazing, unique and fascinating place.
The human brain is the most complex structure in the universe, and the most important part of who we are. It runs our whole world, moves our body, makes our decisions and even tells us when to smile.
For someone newly diagnosed with a neurological condition, life may become very lonely and frightening. People can lose control of their lives and many face unemployment, poverty and social isolation.
At The Brain Charity, we champion neurodiversity and help anyone affected by a neurological condition to pick up the pieces so they can rebuild their lives and achieve their potential.
BOOK A COLLECTION
Please note: When filling your donation bags or boxes, please check all pockets of garments, any bags or purses or any item where you may keep valuables or sentimental items.
As once your kind donations are collected there is a very small window of only 24 hours before the items are either unloaded into a warehouse of around 25 ton plus of bags and boxes (like looking for a needle in a haystack) or shipped across to our buyers abroad, at this point of the process we will not be held liable for any belongings that were not meant for donation.
Thank you for your continued support.
People with neurological conditions in the UK
It is estimated that around 5.49 million people in the UK have a neurological condition, excluding headache and back pain. This number is expected to rise as the population ages and as people live longer with chronic conditions.
The most common neurological conditions in the UK are Dementia with almost 900,000 people suffering from the disease, followed by Stroke with 930,000, Parkinson’s disease with 850,000 and Epilepsy with over 560,000. Other conditions such as Multiple sclerosis and Myasthenia gravis add another 60,000 to this number, which is alarming.
Neurological conditions can affect people of all ages, but they are more common in older adults. They can also have a significant impact on a person’s quality of life, affecting their ability to work, socialize, and care for themselves. |
