There's nothing quite as satisfying as scraping a big silver spoon across the top of a just-opened pint of vanilla ice cream. It's like food ASMR, if you will. (Of course, eating said ice cream is slightly more gratifying, but you get the idea.) The first time I cracked open the Banila Co Clean It Zero Purifying Oil Cleanser and dragged the accompanying tiny plastic spoon across the top of the jar, I was met with that same euphoric sensation.
A Korean beauty favorite, the Banila Co Clean It Zero Purifying Oil Cleanser is a cleansing balm made with licorice root to gently whisk away makeup, dirt, and oil. There's also a combination of herbs (centella asiatica, green tea extract, and chamomile extract) to soothe — not strip — post-cleansed skin.
I like to use it as the first step in my double-cleansing routine every night. I scoop out a dollop of the virtually unscented goop, warm it up in my fingertips, and then massage it from forehead down to décolletage — making a point to gently rub areas that need a little extra TLC (my lashes, lids, and chin). I follow it up with a gentle foaming cleanser (usually something from the drugstore) and then proceed with the rest of my, admittedly excessive, 10-step skin-care routine.
Now, that we are living in quarantine, I look forward to my nightly cleansing routine more than ever — even if I haven't worn a stitch of makeup all day — as a source of self-care. Although my Banila Co jar is now only half full (optimism, people!), I still get giddy when I reach for the tiny spoon every night.
