Life in plastic, it's fantastic — just ask Dua Lipa! The pop star is the latest celebrity to move into the Dreamhouse ... well, the Dreamhouse pool, anyway.
Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie premieres in July and the official Barbie account is introducing us to a whole new crew of dolls, including Lipa as a blue-haired mermaid Barbie. The musician joins Margot Robbie, Issa Rae and countless others in the doll universe and if her blue-on-blue look is any indication, she's going to make a big splash in Barbieworld.
In the official image of Lipa as her mermaid alter ego (scroll through to see her in the embed below), the pop star wears a bright blue metallic strapless bikini top and tail, with a luxurious mane of matching sapphire hair that cascades like a waterfall all the way down her back to her hips. The blue waves are parted to one side to brush over one eye for a sultry effect.
Her eye shadow is a similar blue hue and brushed across her entire lid and lightly in her inner corners, a la the retro Barbies of the '80s and '90s with their frosty shadow. Her cheeks are contoured and dusted with a warm pink blush, and her lips are a similar warm rose shade. She's basically my childhood dream Barbie come to life! The cast also includes a doctor Barbie, president Barbie, and Supreme Court Justice Barbie, so of course we also need one of the iconic mermaid Barbies in the mix, and no one can do it quite like Dua.

Since her introduction in the 1950s, Barbie and her friends have become pop culture icons in their own right, and it's going to be so fun seeing the many versions of the doll come to life onscreen — not to mention a treasure trove of beauty inspo. How many dolls do you know who collaborated with MAC? The question is, will Lipa's Mermaid Barbie perform a few songs for the rest of the doll crowd? Can Mermaid Barbie ditch the tail and walk on land, or is she stuck swimming in the bathtub or a kiddie pool like my Barbies back in the early '90s? We'll have to wait until July 21 to see.
