CLEAN PLAITS

Willow Smith Is Making Braided Sideburns a Thing. No, Really.

Yes, that sounds extremely weird, but you’ll understand once you see it.

On June 20, Pharrell Williams made his debut as a creative director at Louis Vuitton, and, as expected, the looks were equally exciting on and off the runway. Megan Thee Stallion and Rihanna brought the ‘90s back with frosted lips and dark lip liner. Another celeb who caught our eyes was Willow Smith, who attended the fashion show with a braided hairstyle that provided a unique twist on pigtails.

Willow arrived at the show wearing a black suit with a matching black bralette alongside her brother Jaden Smith, who wore a Louis Vuitton jacket and locs styled in a high ponytail. Willow's braids deserve a 360-degree display to truly appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of the style. But, unfortunately, we can only see the front of Willow's hair where it appears to have been parted down the middle, separated into sections, then cornrowed toward her hairline.

The two braids closest to her hairline were cornrowed toward her ear on either side. It appears that a few other cornrows were braided from back to front but were twisted into some kind of pattern near her crown. Each cornrow was braided together into one medium-sized plait that fell right in front of her ears with the tips nearly touching the waistband of her pants.

She paired her inverted pigtails with a warm brown matte lip and black-rimmed eyes. But it's hard to see the rest of her eye makeup underneath her big, square, retro yellow shades.

I honestly have no idea what to call this style. Reversed cornrows? Inverted cornrows? Braided sideburns? Inverted pigtails? But what I do know is that this braided design is cool (like everything Willow does), and I need to see a 360-view asap.
