Weddings, Tourneys and Carpools—Oh My!
Easy to use and accurate.Last weekend, my family and I went to a family wedding. First since Covid. Lot of people and you never know. So this week I bought two Lucira tests to have handy for my wife and me just in case. This morning, I got a call from a friend I sat next to at the wedding—he’d tested positive. I wished him well and grabbed a Lucira test.I wanted to be sure I’m negative ... having just brought a carpool home from a soccer tourney last night and before taking a carpool to a hoops tourney this morning. Kind of dreaded the calls I’d have to make...The test took about 4 minutes to get under way. This includes reading instructions (crystal clear), setting up the test, swabbing. It says you’ll have to wait about 30 minutes to get results. In the meantime, I was able to get my son packed for the hoops tourney and help get my wife and daughter off to the soccer tourney.About 30 mins later, the testing was done the light indicated “negative” (phew!) results. Not sure I would have had the time to go to even a drive through resting place this morning.I felt much better heading into the hoops tourney with the kiddos. What a perfect solution for a complex problem.

So I used a Lucira test on 12/14/22 and got a positive. Followed the instructions. I went to urgent care the same day to confirm things. They did what they said was a viral test and gave me the results the next day on 12/15/22. The results were negative so I can only assume the Lucira kit was faulty. Doesn't feel like it was worth the $30 bucks compared to the cheaper antigen tests. Anyway just putting this out there for anyone thinking of spending money. I really don't have a lot of confidence in these at home tests. Maybe it's just best to go to a lab.

UPDATE: On 12/16/22 recieved call from lab reporting mistake. They had not given me the entirety of my results. I had tested negative for rsv and flu but was in fact positive for covid. So in light of this I do take back my original review of 2 stars.

Could not have been easier to use. Simple swab in the nostrils, mix the sample with the included solution, and place in the testing unit. Just 30 mins for a result and far more accurate than the free antigen tests.

It’s a bit pricey considering the testing device is not reusable but it served its purpose, giving me an almost immediate result at a time when PCR test appointments were difficult to obtain. It did it’s job as I tested positive right before I was about to visit some higher risk friends.

That’s the peace of mind that makes this worth the price.

UPDATE 7/31/2022

Got in touch with an executive from Lucira to discuss my issues stated below. After telling them all the issues we had, even after following all their protocols...(don't leave tests in direct sunlight, proper battery installation, handling procedures, etc...) they believed we may have received a "bad batch". Lucira did refund us for the entire order after we sent back, via boxes labeled "Bio Hazard" that Lucira provided, tests that had malfunctioned and the remaining unused tests. So yes, Lucira did stand behind their product which is all we were asking them to do.

Go with a different testing product! These tests gave inaccurate results, all lights flashing, or failed to work at all! At $75 for each one! If you are testing multiple people use a different test! Plus Amazon will not accept returns on this item even if they are unused and unopened!

Update: Lucira Health reached out and stated: "We’d like to address any issues or concerns you have. Your satisfaction is important so please contact us by replying to this email and we’ll work to resolve your issues."

I responded and relayed my overall dissatisfaction with the product and requested a refund of all the unopened product. We purchased 60 tests and had many failures and unusable results! Let's see if they stand behind their product!

Update: Lucira responded:

"Please accept our most sincere apologies for the inconvenience this caused you.
We would like to share that Lucira’s customer support team is not able to process a refund request if the order was processed in a third party website such as Amazon."

Keep your "Sincere Apologies"! We ordered this because it is touted as the best Covid Tests on the market. Wasted thousands of dollars! Neither Amazon nor Lucira will stand behind this product! Again, we weren't asking for refunds on "used or defective tests" only the unopened and unused ones.

This Covid test, although it is Was exactly what I needed when I had to fly to Alaska during Covid time. The state of Alaska required a negative Covid test within 24 hours and at the stores are so hard to get one with results so quickly, but this at HomeKit was perfect and was definitely worth the price because, I didn’t have to go to CVS or Walgreens and actually expose myself to someone else we might have Covid just to get my own Covid test.

*edit to add: the company is honest. I was contacted and it seems as though the company definitely wants to rectify any issues. It's important to find out if it's user error or product failure and I do appreciate when companies do this.

I was exposed to covid (my husband has it). I woke up with a high fever, really bad headache, and sore throat. Time to test right?

I ordered Lucira and got it the same day. It was extremely easy to use, barring the batteries being a little difficult to put in. The result was a clear negative. Weird but ok. I also tested with a rapid antigen test and within minutes had a blazing pink line telling me I had covid. So... symptoms+ exposure, which test do I trust?

I went to the clinic and got both a rapid antigen and NAAT/PCR test. Positive for covid.

I got another one for this fall/ winter season. I want to keep 1 on hand. Last year I used this test right when I was feeling the body aches and PUNK feeling. I first tried the rapid tests and they were negative. Some hours later I used this expensive one and it was positive. I was surprised to see that. Doctor said to stay away from people and get alot of sleep. After 1 week I felt better, 2 weeks I went out again, though I had horrible headaches for months. I would recommend this over the antigen tests. It does work.

This test is a huge relief! Perfect for home, meetings, or event use, if you want something accurate, fast, and easy to use.

No brain swab or spitting endlessly into a tube (blech)--the directions are easy to follow (basically swirl the swab in each nostril, next swirl in the test tube, and wait 10-30 minutes).

When our daughter received a (false) positive result from an inexpensive antigen test, she was distraught at the thought of being sick herself and potentially infecting the rest of us. We had these tests on hand and quickly tested our entire family. In less than 30 minutes, we had the results -- we were all negative. No comparison to having to schedule another round tests while completely quarantining from her and the outside world! You can use this for kids, too.

We also used this test for long awaited family visits and small events. So good to reconnect without anxiety. We even skipped masks with family when everyone had a negative test.
