Television's Window on the World: Interational Affairs Coverage on the U.S. Networks (Communication and Information Science)

This volume examines U.S. network television coverage of international news based on experiences of the past decade. First, it describes significant patterns and trends in the international affairs content of network news during the decade from 1972-1981, including story formats, visual and audio techniques, and trends in the amount and nature of coverage given to nations and regions of the world. Second, it examines major influences that shape international news content on network television, including satellite technology, electronic newsgathering, and the global distribution of foreign correspondents.

I am an American who first came to South Korea in early 1971 at age 23, as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I received a Ph.D. degree in Communication from Stanford in 1978 and pursued a career that began in university teaching (in the U.S., Korea and Singapore) and included organizing and directing a major executive training for Korea Mobile Telecom (now SK Telecom). I was a senior Fulbright scholar in 1985-86 and from 1996 through 2010 served as Associate and Deputy Director of the Fulbright Commission in Korea. Beginning in the early 1990s my research and publication focused on telecommunications policy and ICT-led development in South Korea.
