I’ve had the Yi Dome camera for a handful of days now and I have to say I’m pretty happy with it
    4 Stars
I’ve had the Yi Dome camera for a handful of days now and I have to say I’m pretty happy with it
I live in a college town that’s mostly safe but after a few things in my apartment have gone missing, I decided to look for a security camera. I’ve had the Yi Dome camera for a handful of days now and I have to say I’m pretty happy with it.I set it up a few days ago before I decide to do a review and I don’t exactly remember the process but that is a good thing. I remember that I had to set it up through the app but it was so easy and painless that I forgot exactly how the set up works. The app makes it self explanatory. If you know how to hook up a tablet or cell phone to wi-fi, you’ll figure out how to sync your camera up to your wifi and the app no problem. The Yi Home app itself works wonderfully. My fiancé and I have different schedules so she usually lets me know when she leaves and I turn the camera on remotely. 9.75/10 if I’m in an area with a good signal I can get a pretty stellar image from the app but when I have 3g the frame rate slows to a crawl if I get a connection to the camera at all. Luckily, I have 4G LTE through most of the city so most of the time I always have access to it. On solid wi-fi ,the streaming is pretty close to real time. I’ve noticed there is a bit of a delay if you’re trying to turn the camera on and off. If you are using cellular data it takes 30-45 seconds (for me at least) to get the camera to connect to my phone once I’ve turned it on but it’s never failed to make a connection. Usually, I can download the alert recordings even on 3G. The two way calling/intercom feature is fun and super easy to use on a regular basis. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be there for intruders or to yell at your dog but my household uses it the same way you would use FaceTime or Skype, pretty nifty.Camera quality isn’t anything to write home about but it’s clear enough to give you a crisp image of what’s happening in your home. It’s great if you’re gonna use it to monitor your windows and your front door but not so great if you’re trying to shoot the next Paranormal Activity. Technically speaking, I’d say HD is 720p at 20-30 fps with a super wide angle, the frame rate stutters more when I have a bad connection but that’s to be expected. Night vision works great but I’ve noticed it doesn’t shut off in the morning/early dawn when I have light peeking in through the windows until later in the day. Eventually, it shuts off as the sun rises but it could probably turn itself off sooner. I haven’t used the schedule function the device yet. This is my first time using a cloud service on a regular basis and I trust it. The app gives the option to make a Yi account and that process is the same as singing up for any other service. I opted for $10 a month option which record 15 seconds on the cloud service when there is movement and paired it with a 16GB Micro SD card. This is perfect because if I didn’t see the alert notification and somebody tried to break in and destroy the camera, I would still have access to the footage it did get. Pretty nifty service that works with every motion alert. My only real problem with this product is that it can’t tell the difference between a somebody walking passed my front window and my cats just running around. I get about 3-5 alert notifications a day and 94% of the time it’s just my cat trying to jump on the window. It’s nice to get cute videos of your cats but it’s kind of alarming when it’s supposed to track home invaders. I’ve learned that most of the time it’s nothing and the camera connection is so solid and works so quickly that I can check in and make sure it’s nothing else. The menu interface is a little clunky and I wish there was just a button for me to just turn my camera and the motion detection on and off without having to hit little gearbox to get into my settings but that’s just me being nitpicky. It would be nice to have a website version of the app as well or some e-mail related integration so if I have don’t have my phone on me and/or can’t get signal I can still get alerts but it isn’t a huge issue for me. The cord could probably be longer but that’s nothing a usb extension couldn’t fix.I’ve seen reviews that say the app does too much with your privacy settings but it’s kind of expected. The app needs permission to alert me and to record and send stuff to my phone, it makes sense that they would need permission for my storage. If you’re really that paranoid about it, you can unplug it, make it face a wall or put it in a box and then plug it in and set it up again. It’s a lot of extra steps since you turn it off from the app but the camera boots up, starts and connects to the app again on it’s own in a few minutes. Some people may feel weird about it’s capabilities and “hacking” but from what I’ve seen Yi is a legit company and I feel comfortable with my product. Chances are that I’ll buy another Yi device for the other room.To recap:PRO’s:-Motion Detection-Cloud Service-Controlling Camera Remotely (with decent connection)-App functionality-Intercom works like a video conference-Easy set-up-Very reliable-Alerts work they way they are supposed to-Cat Videos!CON’s:-Have to use phone app-Somewhat clunky interface-Unusable without your phone-Night vision somewhat wonky-6 ft Power cord-Cat Videos (alerts every time your pets move in frame even on lowest movement settings)If you need a security camera that is trustworthy and fully functional get this. Just make sure you leave your pets in the other room.

I bought this looking for an inexpensive way to monitor my kids when using the freezers and pantry in the basement. Too many things left out and doors not closed! The price is reasonable and the features seemed great.

It has FAR surpassed my expectations, I bought two more and may even buy one or two more! I am handicapped, and being able to see places that I can't get to has been wonderful. My teenage kids were starting to take advantage of my immobility, well no more! I can set to auto track, I can record or take pictures, use as an intercom, or listen alone. I can mount on the ceiling which truly gives the best amount of viewing area. It has night vision , and I can look around in my house if I hear a noise and see if it was a cat or a kid up!

Very easy set up. Clear pictures. Very quiet. Also the power indicator light can be set on or off. There is a spot for an SD card, but it isn't necessary. There is also a service (security) you could subscribe to if you choose.

I can set up the device to text my phone or watch if there is movement detected. There is also a spot on the app where you can check alerts . And play a short clip of movement caught. It lists the date and time.

Amazing device, easy to install, inexpensive, can have multiple in use. Easy to monitor via the app. Nice viewing area, many nice features.

I even checked in on my dogs while off to the doctors! (They were crying, I turned the speaker on and listened and then I turned the intercom on and spoke to them calming them down!)

I am not a computer savvy person and this was super easy to set up.

Honesty I am so glad we purchased this camera. Before we had our baby I was so against wasting money on an expensive baby camera especially since they never get good reviews. Living in a one story I thought I would buy a sound monitor instead for way cheaper than a camera. Fast forward month later, I realized I never used the sound monitor and to be weather my baby was safety in our bed or in the crib I constantly worried which made me get up every 5 minutes to see. I decided to finally look into a camera after she turn 6 months for peace of mind and I am so glad I did. This camera got solid reviews and priced very reasonable also I liked that it wasn't just a baby camera. We have been using this at night and when she naps for a few months now and love it. I can quickly see my baby on my cell and my husband can too. It doesn't freeze and has prefect image even in the dark. Easy to set up and realizable. It can zoom in and move. We don't have it mounted but you can mount this as well. We plug it in only when we need it otherwise we just unplug. It turns on fast probably about 1 minute to turn on and focus. It's really quiet too. It does make a light sound when it turns on and when you decided to zoom in. Also You use this on your phone download the free app make an account and then you can view. So make sure you have internet. I was concerned with privacy but our internet is succired and you also have to enter a pin code on the app to pull up the video feed.

The few things I have noticed that aren't the best is at times the video skips in 4 second increments. Hasn't ever been more than that. And I have tried the speaker in which I can talk in my phone and my baby can hear me from the camera and she hates that. It freaks her out and she screams. But that doesn't mean everyone will not like the speaker.

Overall a quality camera that gives you peace of mind. Would highly recommend this for other parents looking to keep an eye on their baby!

I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be there for intruders or to yell at your dog but my household uses it the same way you would use FaceTime or Skype, pretty nifty.

Camera quality isn’t anything to write home about but it’s clear enough to give you a crisp image of what’s happening in your home.

The cord could probably be longer but that’s nothing a usb extension couldn’t fix.

I’ve seen reviews that say the app does too much with your privacy settings but it’s kind of expected. Chances are that I’ll buy another Yi device for the other room.

    To recap:

    PRO’s:
    -Motion Detection
    -Cloud Service
-Controlling Camera Remotely (with decent connection)
    -App functionality
-Intercom works like a video conference
    -Easy set-up
    -Very reliable
-Alerts work they way they are supposed to
    -Cat Videos!

    CON’s:
    -Have to use phone app
    -Somewhat clunky interface
    -Unusable without your phone
    -Night vision somewhat wonky
    -6 ft Power cord
-Cat Videos (alerts every time your pets move in frame even on lowest movement settings)

If you need a security camera that is trustworthy and fully functional get this. Just make sure you leave your pets in the other room.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gute Kamera, einfache Installation
Reviewed in Germany on March 20, 2017
