Of all of Lou Reed’s records, this was the best one to get the expanded, deluxe reissue. It’s his best. And, while some of the topical references might put off a new listener, there’s a real beating heart in the lyrics. Both the remastered LP and CD sound magnificent. Because of all the supplemental material, this set probably isn’t for the casual Reed fan (Transformer or The Blue Mask are good entry points), but if you truly love Lou, it’s essential. My favorite extra is the DVD of a live performance of the album in its entirety. I miss Lou, and wish I had the opportunity to see him live more than twice. Luckily, this DVD gives a little taste as to what that was like.
New York is one of the finest albums Lou Reed ever recorded. I have it on vinyl and CD, and the concert on VHS. I have been waiting for it to appear on DVD for twenty years. (That, and Songs for Drella, which I also have on VHS.) So, I basically bought this for the DVD, but the two album set, plus all the extras on the CDs is worth the price of this collection. Now, it would be great if Sire did the same thing with Stella.
Yup, it's only 1 album. But you get live cuts of all the songs, a vintage video, a high resolution digitally remastered copy along it it pressed to 4 sides of vinyl cut by the mastering engineer Chris Bellman. If that isn't enough, they throw in some demos and early versions of most of the songs. And you get an interview with Lou discussing the process of making the New York album. If you're unfamiliar with this album, this set might be overdoing it. If you're tempted because you are familiar with this album, then this is what you've been waiting for.
This is the definitive take on this iconic record. The live recordings are stellar. The remastered tracks are just perfect-not tweaked to death and the video is sublime. All Lou fans should have this.
New York's bard made more records after this one in 1989, but he never made a better one. With remastered sound, a live DVD with an interview added, and two slabs of great sounding vinyl, it's a fitting testament.
This is the best sounding vinyl in my collection. Sounds absolutely stunning. I wish all new vinyl on the market was of this high a quality. Highly recommended! (Turntable: Harman / Kardon T65C)
An OK quality pressing. If you like Lou Reed from 1972 you will line this album. It’s one of those albums to have in a color you will play a few times a year.
This is my favorite all-time Lou Reed album. There is just something dirty and gritty about the storytelling and characters. You can't go wrong with this.
Hay un cuidado increíble en esta edición. El vinil suena muy bien y los extras son bastante generosos. Los escritos y las fotos están en un _booklet_ que aderezan la música. Es una edición muy cuidada de un álbum fabuloso.
This is a fantastic trawl thru the making and performing of Lou Reed's 1989 masterpiece New York. I won't go into detail on each track because if you are already here you'll know how good this album is. What you may not know are the added extras of demo recording, run thru's and live performance. This package contains double vinyl, cd and bluray/dvd plus a well produced book to go with it. I didn't buy this when it first came out but am so glad I got it after an impressively hefty price drop. Highly recommended.
Quindi... BUON ASCOLTO :D
