Mirrorless is the way to go and there is none better than the NX1
I've watched as my friends slowly migrate toward mirrorless cameras and wondered what was all the fuss. I've been intrigued by the possibilities; but, there is no substitute for an optical viewfinder...or so I thought. I thought of taking baby steps in to the mirrorless realm; but, I've never been happy with entry and mid-range equipment. Based on all the reviews I decided to simply go for it. Given that I had recently continued to invest in my Canon inventory to include a new 50mm 1.4 and a 600EX-RT Speedlite I started to question my sanity. I've been shooting Canon SLRs and DSLRs for over 25 years...I can't believe I've not had any desire to touch my Canon cameras after playing with this camera. The digital viewfinder is amazingly fast and full of useful information. The digital level is one of my favorite tools.I've recently attended a wedding and, I'm no professional, found that the simple act of pointing and shooting yields very impressive results. I've even handed the camera off to total camera novices and got great results. I may have startled them a bit as I set the shooting rate to 15 fps. I typically set the camera to the fastest frame rate as those I hand the camera will typically take press the button once and result isn't all that great. To my amazement almost all the shots came out great. My Canon set to 7 fps yields pretty decent results in the middle to latter shots.I'm no fan of using any smart features of the camera (e.g., scene and face detection); but, this camera surprisingly is intelligent enough to get it right almost all the time I've played with this feature. The 16-50mm lens is absolutely amazing...'nuff said...there is plenty of reviews on this lens. Only downside is the size as the built in flash will get partially blocked by the lens at all focal lengths. There is no sense in repeating all the great reviews to date. I'll share with you some photos I took just after I've opened the box, charged the batteries and simply shot the photos in P mode. You judge for yourself.

Very nice camera. Gently used and well cared for from what I can tell so far. I have a lot to learn about all of the features and there are many! The touch screen is amazing. I forget I can navigate that way sometimes. I debated on the purchase, but found I couldn't get the same deal on the new one with this lens. The lens is HEAVY and makes the camera as heavy as my Canon DSLR with a similar lens. Four starts because I think they should have used the same viewfinder and rotating screen from the NX30. The movement of this screen is very limited by comparison. I didn't realize that the video is shot in H.265 and most editing software can't convert. Premier Pro is compatible for the video download. I found a free app through a YouTube review that converts H.265 back to H.264.
Samsung flash fits, and although pricey, I think it will work better than other flashes that say they're compatible, and are not. Will do some shooting and see how camera and flash work together. Samsung should keep developing and supporting the NX mirrorless cameras. They got this right! Don't leave us hanging on the cusp of greatness! :-)

Samsung really needs to fix their quality problems as I've unfortunately had a very bad experience with a couple of these NX combo kits:

    1. Focus problems where the camera insisted on focusing on backgoround objects yet indicator clearly showed correct subject
    2. Loose lens mount where the lens rotated and 'clunked' in the mount 2-4mm every time you moved the zoom ring (!)
    3. Hot/stuck pixels right in the center of the image and visible at base ISO

Just as a reference I'm not new to SLRs or DSLRs having started with film bodies in the early 1980s. And currently have a number of Nikon digital bodies and lenses. Was hoping to expand my collection with this NX combo attracted to the image quality and 4K video as an all-in-one setup for travel.

The loose lens mount problem appears to now be quite widespread with reports being posted on many forum sites and other vendor comments. The amount of slack or movement is excessive and not normal. Youtube also has a video showing a camera display flashing "lens disconnected" as the owner simply rotates the body around (note it's with the 50-150mm zoom). It's not clear if the loose lens fit is the issue but is highly likely related. Others have commented on this problem of lens showing disconnected as well.

These problems totally ruined the great features and capabilities this camera offers. Too bad as I was really, really impressed and very happy with the image quality. It was superb. And the 4K video is also outstanding. But I've lost confidence in the product and with investing in Samsung lenses. Will wait a few months for a new batch or for the next NXx release to see if quality improves.

I was thinking I wanted to go smaller in size and I did with some other cameras. However, I realized that it did not make me take it with me any more than I already did and that I missed the feel and options of the larger size. After looking at the typical big name players again, I started reading about this and ended up getting it. I had read about low light focus issues etc, but also read how quickly Samsung was putting out firmware updates to correct issues. That was enough for me to get it. I really did not have many issues with low light shots. Sure, there was some hunting and not able to focus moments, but nothing crazy. However, Samsung put out another firmware which really fixed a lot of the minor focus issues I had. Now it seldom hunts and is pretty quick in even darker conditions.
The camera itself just feels really good in my hand. I am confident just wielding it around with one hand and no strap. The buttons feel firm and the dial indicators work really well. I like the optional push lock on the main dial.
The technology is amazing for a camera and the video is incredible (including the options while shooting video). I will say that the video format can be a pain to work with since there are still a limited amount of programs that can handle it. Time will take care of that part though.
The onboard flash sucked IMHO. I have the 16-50 2-2.8 lens and the low sitting flash causes a shadow with this lens. I decided to get the Samsung SEF850 flash and absolutely love it.

The only thing left that I am bothered by is the lack of support for iPhone users and samsung custom mode downloads. It requires you to do this through the app, but you cannot do it via the iPhone. Sure, Samsung vs Apple, but come on lol. Not a big deal though since you can make your own within the camera itself.

i am absolutely DISGUSTED with samsung. This is the second smart camera i have purchased in 2 weeks. The first was the NX30 which i had to send back because it would not turn on even with a fully charged battery unless hooked up to a power source to jump start it. Now i drop 3 grand on a POS camera that wont recognize a 1.5k lens? THIS IS UNHEARD OF. DO NOT BUY SAVE YOUR MONEY
