This battery grip doesn’t fit my Sony AR7 I turned the dial to tighten the grip when the grip was flush with my camera it was crooked…. Not to mention it doesn’t work. Now I see why this grip is unavailable and they don’t know when it will be back in stock!
There was no remote in the box and batteries are not able to charge while camera and grip are mounted together, You will have to take the grip off all the time and then take the batteries out of the grip to place them back in the camera to charge the batteries. Lame and misleading product, NOTE: not weather sealed either so if anyone is thinking of purchasing one, just save the money and By a Sony Grip instead.
I haven't used the Sony original, so I can't compare, but I have used 3rd party grips on other DSLRs in the past. This one works just fine. I can't imagine a more sturdy build except if it was built of metal.
Besides doubling the battery life, the grip adds much needed leverage on the body when using heavier lenses. I shoot video on my A7s with adapted Nikon and Canon lenses. It's great being able to pull the battery tray out the side (I don't use a cage) to swap batteries during a shoot instead of reaching under the camera, or worse, having to remove the camera from the tripod.
