Verizon to Issue Software Update for HTC Thunderbolt, 3G and Messaging Fixes

As we continue to marvel at Verizon’s 4G/LTE woes, at least we catch them doing the sensible thing and fixing the 3G connectivity problems on their first 4G smartphone, the HTC Thunderbolt.  There were big problems switching from 4G to 3G during the Mysterious Verizon LTE Outage, the one right before the scheduled release of the Samsung Droid Charge.  (And that outage led to the release being indefinitely postponed.)

Here’s specifically what Verizon is promising with this update (Build Number: 1.13.605.7, Baseband: 1.16.00.0402w_1):

Web Browsing and Data Access

  • Enhanced data connectivity when accessing the Verizon 3G network.

Email and Messaging

  • SMS and MMS messages are stored properly in the Messaging Application (Inbox, Sent, etc.).

Additional Device Features

  • Timing for device activation has been improved.
  • “Backup Assistant” is correctly displayed in the Application menu.
  • Stability improvements for data centric applications such as Facebook, KAYAK, Yahoo! Mail, My Verizon and more.
  • Accurate location is displayed when accessing the Weather Widget.
  • Quickly load GPS updates for Google Maps and VZ Navigatorâ„¢.

Head over to Verizon Wireless for details and a larger version of the above image.  Their site says they will be pushing out the update OTA (over the air), so let us know when it hits your Thunderbolt, and if you see any improvements.  Maybe this is a good time to try the Check-in feature and see if that gets you your update any faster.
