Samsung‘s May 2023 update is available for all of its recent foldable smartphones in the US. The company is updating the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 to the latest security patch. The update currently appears to be limited to factory-unlocked variants of these foldables.

Samsung should soon cover carrier-locked units as well. It has already released the May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy S23 series stateside.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is picking up the May update in the US before international markets. The unlocked variant of the latest Fold model is getting the new SMR with firmware version F936U1UES2CWD7. The update doesn’t bring anything apart from this month’s security fixes.

Samsung has already revealed that the May SMR patches more than 70 vulnerabilities in Galaxy devices. These include both Galaxy-specific and Android OS flaws. At least six of those were critical security issues.

These security fixes are also rolling out to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in the US. Once again, users stateside are first to the party. Samsung hasn’t released the May SMR for the latest Flip model anywhere else.

Unlocked units in the US are getting the update with the firmware build number F721U1UES2CWD7 (via). It contains nothing more than this month’s vulnerability patches. Both Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 should get the new security update in more markets in the coming days.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 are also getting the May update in the US

The story is slightly different for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung released the May SMR for the 2021 foldable duo last week. Following the initial release in select international markets, the update has now reached the US as well.

The new firmware versions for the unlocked variants of these two devices are F926U1UES3FWD7 and F711U1UES4FWD7, respectively. These foldables don’t seem to be getting any additional goodies either. The update is all about security enhancements.

If you are using any of Samsung’s past two generations of foldables in the US, the latest security update should be available to you soon. As said earlier, the Korean firm hasn’t released the May SMR for the carrier-locked variants yet, but it should just be a matter of time now.

As usual, you can check for updates manually from the Software update menu in the Settings app. Tap on Download and install to check if you have an OTA (over the air) update pending download.
