Samsung’s newest book-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, ended up in the hands of Zack from the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel. We all know what that means, another durability test. Spoiler alert! The Galaxy Z Fold 5 actually managed to do an outstanding job in this durability test.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 does a great job in a brutal durability test

You can watch the entire test in the video provided below the article, though we’ll talk more about it here, of course. The video itself has a duration of almost 8 minutes, so let’s get started.

Let’s start with the cover display. It started scratching when confronting a level 6 pick, as expected. This is the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, which means the display is really well protected.

In regards to the main display, it’s very easy to scratch, as expected. There’s a layer of plastic applied to it, as this is a foldable display. You can do some damage with your fingernail, even, so keep that in mind.

The frame is made out of aluminum

The phone’s frame is made out of aluminum, which Zack proves in this video. The only part around the phone that is made out of plastic is the portion with the 5G antenna. Glass is included on the black, the same one as on the front, which is good.

The plastic on the main display started melting after 10 seconds. That’s a test that Zack does for fun only, it’s not something you should worry about. The fingerprint scanner on the side did find scratches to be an obstacle, but it still worked to a degree. Zack did scratch it up really well, though. In general, it works really well.

Dust, sand & rocks didn’t harm the device, while it also didn’t break during the bend test

He also decided to pour a ton of dust, sand, and rocks on the phone, and its hinge. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not dust resistant, so if it broke from this, that would be understandable. Not only did it not break, but that did not affect its functionality at all.

The last test he did, as per usual, is the bend test. The phone did a brilliant job. The phone did flex a bit when pressure ended up being applied from the back (when unfolded), but it did not break, nor was its functionality affected. It simply reverted back to its original form. The Pixel Fold did break, by the way, as did the Motorola Razr+.
