Today is a good day to be a Samsung Galaxy user in the US. The company has released the latest security update for a bunch of devices. The May 2024 security patch is rolling out to the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Galaxy A13, and Galaxy A13 5G. It has already updated over a dozen other models.

The May update is rolling out to the Galaxy S21 series and other devices in the US

A few days ago, Samsung released the May security patch for the Galaxy S21 series in Europe and other international markets. The update is now available in the US. As of this writing, the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is rolling out to carrier-locked units with the firmware build number G99*USQSBGXE2. Samsung may soon begin a wider rollout covering unlocked units.

Since the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra recently received the One UI 6.1 update with several new features, the latest release only brings security fixes. Samsung’s May SMR addresses 55 vulnerabilities on Galaxy devices. These security fixes are also rolling out to the US Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The new build number for the Note phones is N98*USQS7HXE3.

Additionally, Samsung is updating all eligible foldables to the May SMR in the US. It previously updated the 2022 and 2023 models and is now following up with updates for its 2021 and 2020 foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is getting the update with the build number F926USQS6IXE5 or F926U1TBS6IXE5. For the Galaxy Z Flip 3, it is F711USQS7IXE5 or F711U1UES7IXE5.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G are also picking up the May security update stateside. The former is getting the build number F916USQS6KXE3 or F916U1UES6KXE3, while it is F707USQS8IXE2 or F707U1UES8IXE2 for the latter. Note that the original Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold are no longer eligible for official software updates, not even security patches.

The Galaxy Tab S9 series is also getting the latest security patch

The Galaxy Tab S9 series is another new entrant to Samsung’s May security update party in the US. The update is rolling out with build version BXE1 (last four digits). Like all other devices, the flagship tablets aren’t getting anything more than this month’s security fixes. The new SMR is also rolling out to the Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A13 5G with build numbers A135USQS8DXE2 and A136USQS9DXE5, respectively. You can check for new updates from the Settings app.
