The Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic are finally here from Samsung, and they’re both running on Wear OS 4. This is Google’s latest version of the OS for smartwatches and introduces numerous benefits over the older software. The most notable of which are of course the improved battery life and performance.
These two particular traits of the software are parts of it that have always been less than great for the platform. Although Google did improve them with the release of Wear OS 3 when it launched back in 2021. Back then, Google partnered with Samsung to launch the software on the company’s new Galaxy Watch 4 series. And it’s once again partnering up with Samsung to do the same thing with Wear OS 4 and the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Battery and performance improvements are not the only changes though.
Wear OS 4 on the Galaxy Watch 6 doesn’t require a watch reset when changing phones
Another big change with Wear OS 4 should address a pain point that users have had for a while. The need to reset your watch anytime you want to swap it from one phone to another. While this process doesn’t take a super long time nor is it really difficult to do, it’s not convenient and it is kind of a hassle. Luckily with Wear OS 4 and the Galaxy Watch 6 series, that’s no longer going to be a problem.
With Wear OS 4 you won’t need to reset your watch if you want to disconnect it from one phone and connect it to another. So you can keep all of your apps, settings, and other changes when moving between devices. This should save users a little bit of time.
Updated privacy features give peace of mind
The new software updates some of the privacy features too. Bringing it a little more in line with Android smartphones. With Android on smartphones, you can now see when the device is using things like your camera and mic. Wear OS 4 will now do this as well. Showing you when the watch is using the mic, in addition to your location. This way you’re aware of what apps and services access this kind of data, and you can make adjustments accordingly if you like. Wear OS 4 is likely to bring in some other changes to the platform, but these are some of the bigger changes.
