marc-fagelsonMarc Fagelson, PhD

Professor, Dept of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology
East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN

Dr. Fagelson’s clinical and academic teaching centers on courses covering hearing science, audiologic evaluation, pathologies of the auditory system, and tinnitus management. He co-edited Tinnitus: Clinical and Research Perspectives, and a companion text, Hyperacusis and Disorders of Sound Tolerance, both with Dr. David Baguley published by Plural Publishing.

Dr. Fagelson opened the James H. Quillen Mountain Home VAMC Tinnitus Clinic in 2001. The clinic now enrolls more than 1,000 patients, providing extensive and collaborative counseling for patients, as well as a variety of sound therapy strategies that support a patient’s ability to manage the tinnitus experience. A substantial proportion of the veterans seen in the clinic experience tinnitus that is complicated by the influence of co-occurring psychological conditions and injuries including posttraumatic stress disorder. This challenging and underserved population is the focus of Dr. Fagelson’s research.

He earned his PhD at University of Texas at Austin, and his Master of Science in Audiology from Columbia University, Teachers College; New York. Dr. Fagelson is a member of the American Tinnitus Association, as well as serving on the ATA’s Scientific Advisory Committee since 2014. He is a member of the British Tinnitus Association, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the American Academy of Audiology, the Academy of Rehabilitative Audiologists, and the Tennessee Academy of Audiology.
