Care

Be fully supported and receive complete care and attention from us throughout the process.

Meaningful assessment process

If you want a quick, 'in and out' autism or ADHD assessment, we are not the service for you.

If you want a thorough diagnostic and feedback process that helps you and your daughter make sense of who they are, then we are here to support you through that.

As well as diagnosing autism and ADHD, we also assess for extra 'stars' within the autism and ADHD constellation such as;

PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance or Persistent Drive for Autonomy),

Image

Executive function (how the brain manages itself by regulating emotions, planning and remembering things, starting activities, coping with change),

Sensory profiles and differences,

Cognitive/learning styles,

Impact on mental health.

Many autistic/ADHD girls are experiencing co-occurring mental health struggles, which are often due to shame, masking and camouflaging. Some girls are misdiagnosed with a mental health diagnosis due to a lack of understanding of autism and ADHD. All of our assessments include a Clinical Psychologist with specialist mental health training. If mental health is a concern, we will help you understand this and make recommendations for support.

We also have additional expertise in understanding neurodiversity in the context of early attachment disruptions and trauma.

Our private autism and ADHD assessments are extremely detailed so you and your daughter can really understand her differences and what that means for her in her life going forward.

"I had explored other options - different private assessors and the NHS but felt at a total loss. With a daughter who masked with everyone except me, and who was very closed and anxious about opening up to anyone, I wondered how I would ever get help. Becky opened the door to the way forward and guided me step by step. She really listened to every concern I had at each stage of the process and worked with me to ensure my daughter was put at ease. I felt like I was given a lens with which I can view my daughter and now I have much more clarity and understanding of the situation. But I also felt that my own concerns and exhaustion and upset (as a parent) were seen and validated for the first time. I feel like the assessment gave me some comfort and security and Becky felt like an ally throughout the process. I was particularly impressed that a school observation took place and a feedback meeting with school. I was also given help and guidance with the next steps going forward and I feel like Autistic Girls continue to be supportive in guidance and signposting. I can not rate Autistic Girls highly enough."

Understand your daughter’s differences with these 3 steps:

1. Book a FREE screening call with us

Before committing to a full private autism and ADHD assessment, we offer a FREE 30 min, no obligation screening assessment with one of our experienced team. They will screen for key indicators of autism and ADHD, so you can be confident that a full assessment is warranted. This also gives you the chance to meet a member of the team and decide whether this is the right service for you and your daughter.

2. Complete your assessment

We’ll carry out a detailed assessment to find out whether your daughter is autistic and/or an ADHDer. We follow NICE guidelines for 'gold standard' assessments and use DSM-5 diagnostic criteria but assess for 'differences' and 'preferences' rather than 'deficits' or 'disorders'. Our process is extremely thorough and you will be given the highest level of privacy, care and attention throughout.

3. Understand your daughter better and help her feel good about who she is

Our assessment process will help you, your daughter and your daughter's school/college (if relevant) understand her differences and know what she needs to thrive. This is a big step in supporting your daughter's developing identity and helping her feel good about who she is.

Autism and ADHD assessments can be an emotional and powerful process and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Who will be assessing my daughter?

Autistic Girls is a team of experienced health and education experts who have been assessing and supporting autistic and ADHD girls and women for decades in various NHS, education and independent services. Many of us are neurodivergent ourselves and/or have neurodivergent children. Read more about the team here.

Your daughter’s assessment will be led by an experienced member of the team. Dr Becky Quicke runs the service and provides clinical oversight. She is a clinical psychologist who specialises in autism and ADHD assessments for girls and women. Read more about Dr Becky Quicke here.

Your daughter will also be assessed by an Educational or Clinical Psychologist from our education team.

All assessments are discussed within our multi-disciplinary team as per the NICE guidelines for autism and ADHD assessments. As well as helping the diagnostic process, the team's wealth of knowledge and experience gives extra layers of understanding about your daughter's differences, which are written into your assessment report.
