Out of the three islands I found Bonaire the best bargain. Arube is more for a pricy beach vacation, largely for americans. Curacao has a lof or dutch and british party crowd. I found there to be an unpleasant vibe from the locals. Most things are run down. Bonaire, there is a pleasant vibe, great snorkling all around, and easier to get around by car or scooter.
1. Fresh water from the tap form the desalination plant - excellent. 2. Environmental efforts everywhere 3. Excellent restaurants 4. Friendly people 5.The Donkey Sanctuary- heartwarming 6. Warm, clean ocean for diving and swimming 7 Construction everywhere- ugh! 8. Traffic everywhere- not fun for walking places.
Bring your own wash clothes, I felt not fully cleaned. You will need a taxi because there is nothing to do but beach in the area. The room 4 I was in was right by the lobby and it was noisy, at night they only serve pizza and it was not good. I would stay closer to the downtown area if I went again because you can walk and do things. The only good thing is if your looking to do nothing, this is the place to stay. My room was supposed to be a deluxe but it wasn't. It was like a dorm room. I couldn't open window because of bugs flying in.
Everything in walking distsnce. We ate at the Trocadero and the Club Boulevard. Fantastic. The service at the Club B was outstanding. David the person serving our table is his weight in gold worth for every restaurant owner. The food fantastic. Also for me as vegetarian. Price vs quality very very good.
Nice town, always felt safe. Very friendly overall. Expensive, but this is to be expected on an island where everything is imported. Cruise ship "tourons" overwhelm downtown during the day when boats are in. Great eating options.
It is a nice little city with lovely restaurants and great grocery stores. We found nice shops and fun places to have cocktails by the sea. Luciano's is right across the street from the sea and has wonderful gelato! We had amazing meals at Capriccio (which has a sea view), and C"est La Vie. Bon Tapa has delicious food and and really tasty fresh made sangria. Mona Lisa also served delicious food, but is quite pricey. We love El Pascado for a more budget friendly meal, and Rumba has really great pizza. The shore diving in Bonaire is really great! We went with Dive Friends for tank rentals a they have multiple locations to pick up and drop off tanks. Some of our favorite dive sites this time were, Torre's reef, Red Slave, Tolo, and Pink beach. All of these also have good snorkeling. It's definitely busier in town when the cruise ships are in , but they are mostly gone by 5pm. Also, there is a schedule of when and which dock they will arrive at in the local newspaper.
