loved the local culture and historical buildings. the waterside was very interesting. The local people were very friendly and there is a wide range of pubs, cafe’s and restaurants to suit all tastes. First time in Dundee and will definitely be back. There is so much more to explore.
First time visit. Lovely city with lots to explore. The Discovery ship is well worth a visit as is the V and A art museum. My son (writing now) attended the University open day and found it "a friendly, clean city, easy to get about, lots to do and see". The Bank Inn served good "pub grub" and Henry's coffee shop is a quiet place with an excellent range of pastries. For church goers, St Paul's Episcopal Cathedral is very beautiful (High Church, designed by Gilbert Scott) but with a warm, informal and clearly deeply felt service accompanied by fine choral music and rousing hymns. We would happily return.
City was great and very friendly people. Discovery Point and V&A museum installations were amazing. Broughty castle full of history and great views. Visocchi's Gelateria/restaurant had fabulous food and Bowmans cafe was great.
Dundee city centre is compact and easy to walk around. The riverside offers a pleasant walking or cycling opportunity and there are water sports available. Galleries and museums are varied and good and the DCA arts centre is great for food and drink as well as exhibitions and films.
Great city, lots of cultural things to do, cute shops, vintage shops & amazing food places. Lots of choice for veggies. Quiet during the week which was lovely. There’s lots of free things to do in the city too. Some standouts for us was a trip to the Mills Observatory, Broughty Ferry, the Discovery & the McMannus. Foodie highlights, The Bach, Gallery 48, Black Mamba, The Noch & although we didn’t eat here, Flame Tree cafe had a big veggie vegan menu.
Be prepared for the weather, Dundee can blow cold and colder from August to May and maybe in-between, but the city! WOW! Run down a bit now though still fantastic buildings, architecture, history and endeavour but it tries and it strives to survive and for the most part it wins. Love this place, yes old slippers and comfort, dated, but if you want to visit Scotland- visit Dundee.
