Marrakech is a city that awakens all the senses. Its vibrant streets are filled with life, color, and the most picturesque corners you could imagine. Every alleyway seems to hold a secret world of beauty, from intricately designed doorways to hidden courtyards overflowing with lush greenery. One of the most iconic experiences in Marrakech is shopping in the souks. While it’s undoubtedly an adventure, it can also be a bit overwhelming. The art of haggling is deeply embedded in the shopping experience, and while it can be fun for some, it may feel a little exhausting for others. However, if you’re up for it, you can find incredible handmade goods, from textiles to pottery, often at great prices if you master the art of negotiation. The city’s gardens are a peaceful escape from the bustling streets. Places like Jardin Majorelle offer a serene, dreamlike experience where nature and design merge beautifully. It’s the perfect spot to catch your breath and soak in Marrakech’s quieter, more contemplative side. No review of Marrakech would be complete without mentioning its food. The flavors are bold, comforting, and unforgettable. The tagine, slow-cooked to perfection with spices that seem to tell a story of tradition, is a must-try. And don't miss the pastel (possibly referring to pastilla), a sweet and savory pastry that feels like a celebration in every bite. Marrakech is a city of contrasts — lively yet peaceful, chaotic yet charming. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave, with memories of its stunning gardens, delightful food, and lively marketplaces etched in your mind.
Definitely NOT a place I would recommend or return to. While walking, we were approached by two young men on a motorbike that tried to snatch my cellphone from my hand. Also the people we encountered outside of our hotel was not very friendly.
This was my first trip and I enjoyed myself very much. Lots of hustle and bustle all day and night. Good food at a reasonable price. If you are handicapped/disabled bring card as it will allow free access to some museums/gardens
A brilliant place full of culture and tastes and sounds. The food is incredible, the sights of the medina and some of the palaces are really amazing, and the city is well set up for tourism. Perhaps a bit more expensive than other parts of Morocco but totally worth it.
My experience, I felt a lot safer than I expected, no problem at all of using your phone but be aware the locals don't like tourists taking picture or recording videos of them or their shops, so just be respectful. They are lovely people but as can happen anywhere, there are people trying to take advantage of tourists, so: give your price, they like to negotiate and sometimes you can get to 20% of what they offered. If you are walking through the Medina, some people can approach you and offer to help around or even they just start talking like a tourist guide, just ignore and let them go, they will charge you at the end, so be careful.
Marrakesh is a crazy city - entirely run for tourists, but many of the locals are still living traditional lives. They are skilled manufacturers of clothing carpets pottery wood etc. they still insist on bartering for everything! They are generally extremely kind and honest as they need tourists to survive.
