In the shadow of the Battle of Nations Monument lies one of the most impressive area monuments in Germany: The Leipzig South Cemetery. Already at the end of the 19th century, a park-like cemetery complex with the route of a linden leaf was built here.
Between ancient trees and lush rhododendrons, there are simple row graves, imposing buildings, mausoleums and sculptures. Many tombs reflect Leipzig’s impressive Wilhelminian past, but also the need for representation of the wealthy citizens of Leipzig, even beyond death.
Follow me on a stroll through a grandiose cultural-historical open-air museum. Discover fauna and flora in the middle of an idyllic parkland. Experience a unique overall work of art from architecture, sculpture and garden art.
Tip: Take tram line 2 or 15 to Battle of Nations Monument. From there it is a 5 minute walk.
