Spacious room that was tastefully decorated. We loved that vast space as we could walk around without having to squeeze by each other. Really appreciated the free breakfast, especially loved the yummy bread! Parking was also very convenient, right behind the property.

Stayed one night at Machiya Kenroku to break the journey from Takayama to Osaka.
It was a nice and pleasant stay at Kanazawa. Kanazawa deserves a visit for her Omicho Ichiba market, castle and Kenroku-en garden. We managed to end the evening with a walk through the Geisha district.
Hitty’s hospitality was warm, sincere and genuine. Kanazawa was cold and wet when we visited and he heated up the place prior our arrival. It was easy to communicate with him via WhatsApp.
As what many travellers mentioned, he would give a brief history of the house and it felt like a learning journey through Japan’s history on Samurais. This additional personal touch allowed us to know and understand Japan’s history much more!
There’s a lot of heart and care put into the house. Every detail was looked into. Bedding was comfortable and warm. This is a traditional house so there is a need to understand that steps up to the bedroom are steep. Japanese houses are small and petite. So movement has to be small and not loud. Not an issue for us but we had to remind the teenagers to be “gentler” with the wooden sliders.
What touched us most was Hitty’s graciousness. We broke one of the glasses (we felt so bad about this) and offered to pay for it.
Hitty replied with a Japanese proverb, “Something with a form will break someday." And he added, “On the other hand, the memories of your trip and your family will not be destroyed. Have a nice trip 😄”.
Once again, we have been recipients of Japanese hospitality, kindness and warmth with our stay here. Thank you Hitty and we wish you well and we look forward to you visiting our country soon!

Beautiful house with enough room for a family to be comfortable. We stayed in Winter and it was cold and wet but the house was quick to warm. Location was excellent. We could have walked to most places but because of the rain, we bought a loop bus day pass from the nearby square hotel. Bus stop is just next to the market.

Our stay at Yamanoo Ryokan in Kanazawa was nothing short of enchanting. Tucked away above the historic Higashi Old Town, this ryokan offers a rare blend of tradition and tranquillity. The private onsen, overlooking the timeless streets below, provided a uniquely serene and rejuvenating escape—an experience we’ll cherish.
From our arrival, the hosts treated us like family, with a level of warmth and attentiveness that truly set the tone for our visit. The room was thoughtfully designed, merging classic Japanese elegance with modern comforts, making it a perfect retreat. But the real highlight was the kaiseki dining experience—each dish was a miniature work of art, reflecting the seasons and embodying local flavours in a way that was both beautifully authentic and innovative. The breakfast was equally exceptional, each course balancing subtlety with deliciousness.
Every moment at Yamanoo was thoughtfully curated, from the gracious hospitality to the pristine facilities, making it a place we’d wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Kanazawa’s rich heritage with a touch of luxury. This ryokan is not just a place to stay; it’s an experience that resonates long after you’ve left.

Excellent Host. Carmay, the owner makes you feel welcomed the moment you checked in. He offered to pick us up from the train station. There was no need as we drove. Parking was free which was a bonus.
Carmay cooked a tasty breakfast, ingredients brought in fresh from his farm. He even provided us with fresh spring water. He also gave us tips where to visit and gave us an excellent suggestion to drive the Shirawago White Road to Tayayama. We experienced beautiful Autumn views in the mountains thanks to him ☺️ We stayed in Nov

The location is very convenient: 15 min from the station and right in front of the amazing Omicho fish market. You can also walk to the castle. The hotel is brand new, clean and offer confortable rooms. The front desk staff helped us to book a car as well to visit the Noto peninsula and Shirakawago village.
awesome stay at very nice hosts. beautiful little fishing village, you need to eat sushi and drink sake at the local sushi restaurant (sakae sushi) and try fugu at the harbor. the b&b is awesomely designed and very functional. free rent of a bike to explore the village
The woman who was at the Villas (I stayed in number 2) was a delight. Recommended dinner and even drove me there too. Very welcoming and accommodating. The use of the bikes was an added bonus.
Great location, close to the Geisha Village, Castle and a 20 minute walk from many bars and restaurants. The ryokan was lovely and traditional, I loved the Yukata's, the onsen which we were able to use privately, the green tea in our rooms and the tatami mats and futon set up. Bungo and his mother were very kind, friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a traditional experience at a reasonable price, then I would recommend this ryokan.
It was my first stay at a ryokan and an absolutely great experience. Great location, an awesome room with a comfy bed, a mini onsen in the basement. But the best was the host, Mr. Bungo, he was extremely friendly, helpful and patient. His English proficiency is exceptional and he really knows his city and surrounding area well. Especially the village of Shirakawa ;-)
This was great as had whole villa with fire and table and chairs to ourselves but the benefit of communal kitchen and lounge as well. Nice and quiet with central courtyard.
The location was great as we were able to walk to the castle, park and samurai village easily from the hotel. We enjoyed the TeamLab event at the castle one evening and enjoyed the walk back to the hotel. The breakfast was a buffet with a good selection.of salads, fruits and proteins. The Depachika in the store basement was also appreciated as we grabbed some lunch a couple of days.
Beautifully renovated villa with some gorgeous art work on the walls. Fantastic location in a quiet residential street within walking distance to Kanazawa’s main attractions.
The location was perfect for visiting Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen Gardens and Seisonkaku Villa and Omicho market. The hotel was stunning. The staff were brilliant and couldn’t do enough to help. The Maitre d’ was amazing.
