I stayed at Atlantico Avenida Hotel for five days. It’s centrally located in Rio de Janeiro. The area is busy and safe during the day but feels unsafe at night when businesses close.
A major downside is no Wi-Fi in the rooms only in the lobby and restaurant. Breakfast was decent but not impressive. I requested plant-based milk due to lactose intolerance but got no response or accommodation.

Home of samba, Brazil’s 2nd largest city is sassy, seductive and spectacular. The Rio Carnival is legendary the world over for outrageous costumes and infectious rhythms.
Host of the 2014 World Cup final in Maracanã stadium and the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, Rio de Janeiro is forward-thinking. High rises line Ipanema beach and you can find dozens of rollerbladers on the promenades at any time.
The hottest spot is Copabacana, a great place to try biscoito globo, a typical Rio beach snack. Sip a caipirinha here while the sun sets over the bay and mountains – unforgettable. It doesn’t end there though. Clubbing in Rio is fantastic and ranges from techno to traditional bossa nova. Bohemian beats can be found in Santa Teresa and Lapa, whose trams pass over a double-arched viaduct.
Overlooking all this from Corcovado mountain is iconic Christ the Redeemer, welcoming the world to Rio with arms outstretched. Take the funicular railway up to this statue on the edge of lush Tijuca Park for incredible views. Accessed by cable car, Sugar Loaf Mountain is also not to be missed.
Rio de Janeiro Airport is well linked to the ‘Marvellous City’, but traffic can be manic, so leave enough time to reach it from your Rio hotel, apartment or hostel booked through Booking.com.

Rio de Janeiro has an energy that is infectious, it grows on you as the days go by. Its many beaches in particular Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon are beautiful. The blue skies, sunlight and heat were welcome, being that in England the skies are covered by clouds for days or weeks.

Rio was friendly and there was a lot to do.
Rio was friendly and there was a lot to do. I did a 'booze cruise' around the harbour, a jungle tour, hang-gliding, open door helicopter ride a football match as the Maracanã.
They were all good fun and the restaurants we visited were great and very friendly. It goes without saying that the steaks were good without exception. The drinks were good and very reasonably priced compared to the UK.
Transport was easy with Ubers usually about two minutes away and again good value compared to the UK. We had an established guide who was able to facilitate all our activities and took all the organising pressure away from us.

Excellent for 5 day break stayed on copacabana beach the water is not good ipanema seemed far cleaner water but the waves are much higher. Very safe on beaches lots of police about but don’t leave things unattended. Fast pass for sugarloaf is definitely worth the extra the queues are very long but if you go around lunchtime weekdays there isn’t a queue to get up . You can by fast pass on the day just join the regular line we got there around 8.20 and opened at 9.00 bought fast pass and straight to front so no waiting. .Check the cost at beach bars they do like to inflate the cost hoping you don’t check.

If you are tired of Copacabana full of tourists and want to truly relax from the hustle and bustle of the city, this place will be the perfect choice. Hotel Mama Ruisa is a beautiful renovated villa in the charming Santa Teresa district. With only 7 rooms it has a boutique, intimate feel. The property is very well maintained, has a nice garden and a great pool. The design is beautiful. The staff is fantastic! Valeria and Daniel will do everything they can to make your stay unforgettable. Thank you very much for everything and see you again!
Anna Suites was situated in next building of Arena hotel and breakfast was in Arena hotel. They had very good fresh fruit selection: watermelon, melon, papaya, mango, Usual English breakfast stuff like scrambled eggs, sausages but additional 4 different salty pies every morning. Also plenty of sweet option to choose from. Only thing I did miss was fresh salads, tomato, cucumber etc. In general tasty and filling so could skip they lunch with ease.
Location was good between Copacabana and Ipanema beach , both only few minutes walk away.
A very well located hotel in the heart of Rio de Janeiro and so close to Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. The staff were all great, especially Tadeu - we had stayed here a couple of weeks before and amazingly he remembered us and welcomed us very warmly. First class service!
They have a nice pool area and this hotel is really made for families with kids. The location is really good between Ipanema and Copacabana. They also have a laundry service at the hotel which is rare.
the hotel has a great location between copacabana and ipanema.it is fairly safe in the area.the rooms are basic but have all anemnities.the included breakfast is very complete.
