We visit the area often, but rarely stay in a hotel.
We visit the area often, but rarely stay in a hotel. This was an easy drive from YYC and very close proximity to the wedding venue: River's Edge Devon. A Yellow Taxi took us there and back for normal mileage (and a handsome tip both ways). They were prompt, courteous, and safe both ways. Of course the airport access can't be beat, and the shopping options and easy access to the Henday, Gateway, etc. are all convenient.

The street grid system is a bit confusing, and many of the streets are under construction right now (mid-Sept), but Edmonton holds more charm than most other large Canadian cities. The older neighbourhoods are real communities, with churches, outdoor rinks, and "mom and pop" type shops that you don't seem to find anymore in places like Calgary, for example. Downtown is filled with older, modest buildings and parking remains fairly cheap. The stylish new arena and nextdoor skyscraper seem a bit out of place in this town.
There are good places to eat everywhere you go in Edmonton, including some excellent Indian and Chinese restaurants. I recommend the take-out at New Indian Sweets & Restaurant on the corner of 99th St and 63 Ave. (The shwarma restaurant in the same strip mall is also good.) Guilin Noodle House in Chinatown serves a nice bowl of noodle soup at a good price.
Unfortunately, a large part of downtown is run down, especially in the Chinatown area, where there are many abandoned, grafitti-covered buildings and vacant lots. I observed open drug use and many homeless people sleeping in the streets. As in Vancouver, the drug users generally keep to themselves. It is a shame, though, to see so many disadvantaged individuals living in the streets near the Rogers Centre, that shrine to capitalism and wealth.

Beautiful City.
Beautiful City. This was a stop over for us as we finished a road trip from Banff through Jasper. I was surprised how quiet it was given the population. Would recommend the river walk. We enjoyed a couple of hours there.

Don't talk to other hotel guests.
Don't talk to other hotel guests. Check your windows on the main floor and relock them as they come out easily and people can break in. Make sure you get your vouchers for breakfast they usually only give you the one day even if your staying a few. Your keys sometimes work and sometimes don't. I was assaulted in the parking lot and noone was watching the cameras I had to run to the front to get help. There's no security at the back so be careful.

The hotel was Diappointinf as it was under renovation and nothing open, still charged full price. Nothing said about renovations or wouldn’t”t stayed. I would think twice about using bookings.com in further if info not updated.
