I give it a 3 because of: 1 point for the friendliness of the staff at the help desk and the young man who brought our luggage to the room, and 2 points for offering a free late check-out after it turned out that the room we had booked could not be provided at all.

Colourful and historic, modern and colonial, local and touristic, Cartagena de Indias represents one of the liveliest Colombian beach resorts. Its character mixes cultures and peoples, including natives, Spanish, African and Arab. Its rich legacy granted its Old Town the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Some of the best hotels in Cartagena de Indias can be found here.
Proudly Caribbean, Cartagena’s soul gives the rhythm to the streets, and the music coming out of cafés and restaurants is nothing but a physical manifestation of its collective spirit. a beautiful city with many things to do and visit.
a beautiful city with many things to do and visit.
The old town as well as the area or Barrio Getsemani are colourful and really worth visiting and spending some days there.
The modern part of Bocagrande i personally avoided, except for the beach, as nothing to see there and is overpriced.
The airport is very close and the taxis fares are around 20.000 COP to 30.000 COP from and to the historic part.

People always want to know is it dangerous.
People always want to know is it dangerous. It's very safe if you practice safe pastimes. If you go to Chicago looking for cheap thrills in the wee hours of the morning, you might find em! Cartegena is no different. The night life scene is amazing, the food is okaaaayyyy, you'll have to pick your spots and find what you like. The people makes it pop.

We stayed 4 nights in Getsemani neighborhood and loved it!
We stayed 4 nights in Getsemani neighborhood and loved it! There was a very lively atmosphere at night and we never felt unsafe. We stayed 2 nights on Isla Grande in Rosario Islands that was really relaxing and just what we were looking for. We spent our last night in the Old Town and enjoyed that too. The people of Cartegena were really friendly and kind. Even the street vendors were friendly and left us alone after just a simple "No gracias". We preferred Getsemani for the energy and a more authentic feel than the Old Town.

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of Cartagena.
If you can't stand the heat, stay out of Cartagena. It is a beautiful city with very friendly people. The food was terrific, and I have never had any issues with the gastronomy. There are many things to do and see. It is a unique experience. Do your research and plan your outings. If you like history and culture, you will love this city. It would be best if you understood Spanish or used a translation device.

I am glad I had the opportunity to visit Colombia because people’s perception of Colombia is very negative. So having visited Colombia I can confidently say it’s one of the nicest places to visit and so much to see and do !!

We absolutely loved this hotel, during our 3 weeks travelling through Colombia it was by far the best hotel we stayed in.
- the decor is lovely, very Mediterranean
- all of the staff were all so attentive, kind and just couldn’t do enough for you
- they made fresh juice everyday which was a really nice touch
- breakfast is great
- the owner, Louis was so lovely and very helpful. he spent a lot of time advising us and making sure our stay was the best it could possibly be
- the terrace is beautiful, make sure you experience it!
This hotel is only 7 rooms so you get one on one service. We had the room right on the street above the entrance, but it was totally quiet. Breakfast is nice, and the staff will do whatever you want them to do. We asked for poached eggs which they didn't know how to do, but they were willing to learn and it was great. The location is fantastic with restaurants on your doorstep, and you are in the old city and Getsemani is within walking distance. A fantastic place to stay.
Great hotel in the heart of old city. The staff were exceptional: accommodated late check in when our flight was delayed, looked after our bags on check out day whilst we had lunch and arranged taxi to airport. The room was spacious, modern, clean and comfortable. Situated within a residential complex it had 24 hour security. Electric kettle and cups were provided. Superb and affordable.
This hotel certainly met expectations. It is a beautiful luxury boutique hotel. The staff was attentive and I really liked their model for meals. Instead of providing breakfast, they provide you with a credit at the attached cafe which has some of the best coffee I've had in my life. The food is also incredible. The pool is intimate and really lovely. We really enjoyed our stay.
Lovely boutique hotel in the heart of the old city. It has now been our second stay here. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend!
