I liked that our family could be in one room. Our 2 kids are young so we wouldn’t have wanted a separate room. The spa was ok - we attended a family session but it was not included in the price.

Great location next to the teleferico to the mountain top. So peaceful and we were lucky with the weather given this was late September/Oct time

In the morning, before breakfast, I walked over the road to explore an interesting pathway. A couple of hundred metres along the track and up some stairs was THE most amazing church set into a cave about 50 mteres up in the air inside a cliff.
It is alsoa short drive from here to Los Lagos de Covadonga, I went up there early in the morning. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
Breakfast was also breathtaking. They were not sure what I wanted for breakfast so they gave me EVERYTHING! Honestly, there was ebough food for 10 or 20 people. Meat, cheese, cakes, bread, yogurt, jelly, fruit, more cake, butter, jam, cereal and really nice coffee in great big cups.
I ate a huge breakfast and didn't even make an impression on all the food that was there.
Thank you so much.

The location is good, in the middle for different directions
The rutas del cares is a one day event. Other hikes in the area but I can't imagine more breath taking than this hike. Definitely advise staying in Cain to start hike from that end and not bothering with the last 2km decent into poncebo. Was able to leave around noon and return by about 6:30. beautiful drive into the area from the northwest as well as the drive out into the northeast toward Santander.
I've hiked the alps, west highland way, appalachain, Ireland. Ruta del cares is at least as amazing and well worth the stop if in the north of spain.
Although long not difficult at all. Some really high cliffs but the path is plenty wide to not get panicky.

It's such an amazing path to walk.
It's such an amazing path to walk. The views are great throughout and the landscape keeps changing. We ate at the end of the path, in Poncebos and went back to Caín afterwards. Really nice feeling of accomplishment after the almost 25k :)

The manager was very helpful and patient as we asked about the vegetarian options and pudding options for dinner, all in English.
The room was comfortable. The hotel location is of course great, as you are starting the gorge route from the less busy end, and, I would even say, the more scenic end.
Despite us having no phone signal there is Wi-Fi and cards are accepted for payment.
It is a nice spot on Ruta (right at the beginning of the trail, or at the end). Definitely "helpful" during rainy days so you can warm up comfortably. Hotel is on nice spot, even easily accessible by car. Simple breakfast but with everything what's needed. In the village there are some groceries but we haven't used them.
Marvellous little hotel in the pretty village of Cain at one end of the Cares gorge. Great place to rest after 11km walk, wonderful family run it, delicious restaurant fare all at very reasonable price.
