A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.
Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the centre and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.
Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping centre. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.
Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.
Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If travelling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.

I took the car from the garage on Saturday morning because I needed to do certain heavy shopping. Upon my return at about 13:00, I had to park in the street at 10 minutes away from the hotel ((eventhough the garage was pyied for 2 days), because there was a running event in the city and the access towards the hotel was completely blocked. There were no announcements in the streets. Also nobody from the hotel told us about this event and the fact that the car access would be bloccked. I could recover my car ( with all ths shopping in it) at abou 22:30.

I was primarily visiting Lille to attend a gig at The Black Lab venue, which is slightly outside of town (about 15 mins on metro) - this was easy to get to and I will be checking the event listings and may travel for a gig in the future. Lille itself has a fairly compact centre (old town) with some impressive buildings, but also a burgeoning craft beer scene, with several specialist beer bars and shops to visit. There are also many restaurants serving traditional food from the area and Belgian beers as well. We also took the metro to the nearby town of Roubaix to visit La Piscine, an art museum in a converted art deco public swimming pool.

Loved Lille the perfect city for a short break.
Loved Lille the perfect city for a short break. Fantastic shops in the old town. Lots of restaurants and bars. And the Christmas market was cozy, although quite small. The whole old city sparkled with Christmas lights. Easy to get around on foot.

Christmas market was fantastic!
Christmas market was fantastic! Great atmosphere and lots of attractive stalls selling delicious food, vin chaud and crafts. Big wheel gave exciting views of city centre. Several squares, lots of cobbles. Easy walking to most parts of Lille. Citadelle park not very interesting in cold and windy November. Loads of places to eat from tiny cafes (CUP has only 5 seats, but great coffee!) to posh restaurants. Local food is northern French/Flemish and very hearty. Local beer good. Musée des Beaux Arts has good collections of sculpture and paintings, best from 15th to 20th Century, with local Lille artists (eg Carolus-Durand) well represented, and a nice light and airy cafe. Walking round le Vieux Lille is a delight. Not much Art Nouveau architecture, but lots Art Deco. Climb Belfry (if you can, but there is a lift too) for superb views for miles. Area around Lille International Station is ugly modern with huge Euralille mall, but there is good modern architecture around the town hall and belfry.

Lille is vibrant with many places to eat and drink and the food is varied to meet all tastes. The architecture of the old town is very lovely with several large squares, bell towers and monuments. Attractions are going up the city Hall Belfry, the natural history museum, the house of Charles de Gaulle and walking around the Citadel. However it's worth noting that tickets for the Belfry need to be booked in advance and most attractions are not open on a Monday. There are also some art galleries (recommend the Musee La Piscine in Roubaix) that are just outside Lille and easy to get to via the Metro. Brussels and Ghent are also less than an hour away on the main line railway if you want an alternative day out.

Great location, very nice hotel, great room. Clean hotel, nice quiet room with plenty of space, helpful staff.
Right next to tram stop so really easy to get to other parts of Lille. It would also be possible to walk into the main area of Lille and the old town (vieux lille) from the hotel in about 15-20 mins.
Also has convenience store, post office very nearby and some bars and restaurants a short walk.
Would definitely consider staying there again if/when I return to Lille
The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Lille, and appears classy, even with a touch of luxury.
The building is probably quite old, the floors in the rooms seemed particularly old (uneven) but for me it only added to the charm of the place :) The rooms are very comfortable, everything is functional.
The breakfast was a bit pricey, the quality of food was good but there wasn't too much of a choice.
Hotel is 5min away from the Eurostar station and quite central to all major attractions.
Although this is a 3 star hotel, staff is definitely 5 star quality, everyone is attentive and friendly and all of them speak perfect English. I will return if I go back to Lille; cannot recommend this enough.
This is in a fantastic location for visiting Lille and northern France. Near shopping areas, both stations, short walk from the centre. Flat itself is nice, big enough for 4 adults, bathroom clean and kitchen great for catering small simple meals.
Location near Lille Europe and the centre perfect. Room comfortable and warm. Breakfast excellent. The staff was helpful and kind. Overall the hotel is good for a few nights.
