On arrival at the station, Ancona seems a bit hectic and polluted. However, the further you get towards the old centre, the more appealing it becomes. The port is fascinating and the walk up through the small streets to the cathedral is full of great views and architectural gems. There are some good places to eat and drink, and the place has a good buzz to it: culturally diverse, easy to walk around.

We came a day before our ferry trip to Split.
We came a day before our ferry trip to Split. In town, we liked the feel of this working city. We found different food then we had been eating which was fun and spent some time in the square. We ate greek gyros and hamburgers which were a nice change up from pasta and pizza.Next time I come for a ferry I would either go to the ferry ticket office to pick up copies of my ticket as soon as I got off the train (it is close by). If I am staying in a hotel, I would go to the port, find the 20 bus to take you to get your tickets and then return on the bus. The walk to the ticket center from town was difficult and at times without sidewalks.

None of my American friends have ever heard if Ancona, but I'd go back in a heartbeat. It's an important port city and is surprisingly picturesque. There's lots of variety - the harbor, the beach the churches on hills, lively palazzi, many restaurants. And so much history. Renting a bike is a great way to get around given many historical sites are on very steep hills.

Ancona may not be an obvious holiday destination, but there's a scruffy charm to it that I like, and there's enough to do here for a couple of days. It's also a good base from which to explore the Marche region of Italy - I used trains and buses to do full-day and half-day trips to numerous interesting towns during my ten-night. (Smaller villages would require a car.)

Ancona in winter is not a tourist destination, but for those who want to experience small town Italy it has much to offer. I would recommend a visit if you are already familiar with the country. The tourist office map has 4 walks which take you around the centre. The Mole has a wonderful museum where blind, partially sighted and curious people can touch all the sculpture casts. Ancona is well connected by bus and train. The Friday market was fascinating.

We stayed in a room with sea view and balcony which we loved. Yes, the hotel is right on a road which can be busy (and a little noisy) at times. At the same time it is in walking distance of the beach, just walking down the stairs.
Our room was very clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom with a nice bathtub.
The breakfast was really good. The pool was alright and in front of the hotel there was lawn furniture.
We used to walk to the town centre though you could also easily take the bus.
Very nice apartment and very very nice owner!
She did not make any problems with check in later (around 22) or leave the luggage after check out, all for free (opposite to a lot of hotels and apartments where both things are paid). The apartment is very pretty and about 30 minutes by foot to the old city. Highly reccomended if you want to stay in pleasant, peacefull place with the best owner!
Very clean with great accomodations, and 2 bathrooms. Had a pleasant shower experience and the beds were clean and nice. Perfect to come home after the beach. It was close to the port but a bit further away to the beach, nevertheless it was really accessible by bus. Also close to the centre and the owner was nice to give us some tips where to go in Ancona
We were in Ancona for business and didn't have too much time to enjoy the hotel's amenities, but the customer service was one of the best we have experienced in a long time.
We were also very impressed with the qualitiy of the breakfast buffet. Looking forward to retuning one day to enjoy all the hotel has to offer.
Good location and view of the port. Room was comfortable with good AC. There is free parking in front of the hotel which is a bonus in Ancona. Staff was polite.
