Bolzano is one of those cases that are difficult to describe without risking undermining its beauty and complexity. A witness of the conflicts and renaissance of Europe, this Italian city is the capital of the German speaking province of South Tyrol. Located in the Adige River Valley, it is surrounded by hills crowned by castles, and framed by the Dolomites Alps.
After reaching the local railway station, follow the Bahnhofsallee or Viale della Stazione and you’ll reach Walther Square, where the beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady is located. The shops along the arcaded street of Via dei Portici will lead you towards the market, located in Goethe Strasse. What's not to like about Bolzano.
What's not to like about Bolzano. Its perfect as a gateway to the Dolomites but you really need a car. If you like shopping there's loads of shops. Tons of restaurants for every pocket. You can get all over town by walking or even hire a bike. And best of all its home to the Iceman

Good location for easy access to the DOLOMITES, although start early, about a 30 or 40 miute drive. Shopping district was where the hotel, plaza and restauratnts were - varied and many.Traffic was a bit intimidating with construction project; the ZTL zones are many - but well maked here.

It is a great city , easy to walk around .
It is a great city , easy to walk around . Good food and wine . Best bit is that by cable car it opens up the mountains via a wonderful train that connects you across the top . Then bus and cable cars that will take you to the Ritter horn . There are great hikes everywhere . I can not wit to return.

Bolzano is very cool.
Bolzano is very cool. The city itself is charming and German cute. a great escape from the scorching heat say in Rome or Florence during the summer months. Make sure you visit the museum where "The Iceman" is - very informative and interesting. . The surrounding countryside and dolomites are very scenic and wonderful. Highly recommended.

The hotel also gave us a Bolzano card free of charge, with which we were able to enter the mummy Ozi's museum and take the public transportation for free, including the cable cabin to Bolzano Sopra. Although the hotel is not within walking distance to the center, with the help of public transport, we did not feel it.
