We stayed in Izmir for a few days last year. The city offered good shopping , excellent seafood along the sea front, many bars and restaurants. Alsancak area was a great place to visit and plenty things to do there. Alsancak is suitable for all age groups. It was very easy to get around the Izmir as we could take trains local buses and taxis without any problem.

A good location for day trips and if you want to buy a wedding dress (there are many shops selling wedding dresses). It seemed a safe and friendly city. For travelers heading to Ephesus, Izmir is worth at least a day or two on its own. The seafront promenade is lined with good fish restaurants and the bazar has many shops selling locally-made items, including new and historic hand-woven rugs from all over Turkey. The Agora ruins are worth a visit to get an idea of what the ancient city was like. There are also several significant museums in the city. We walked all over the city, but there is a tram system.
