We came to Portland primarily for Kumoricon, but stayed another day to just explore and check out the city. We visited last year but our primary focus was attending the con. November is a tricky time to go; the fall colors are beautiful and the air is delightfully crisp, but it's cold, windy, and grey. We visited the Rose Test Garden and it was still quite pretty, but definitely not as enchanting as it could be. Getting around Portland is extremely easy if you know where you want to go. Pro tip: either buy day tickets or use the mobile fastpass and just ride around on the light rail. It's ~$5 for a day pass and you can hop on and off wherever. Most of the city is walkable and easy to get around :) Overall, there's lot of food options, interesting places to check out, and lots of fun and friendly people to interact with. We had to look up the best neighborhoods to explore and ended up spending time in Nob Hill and Alberta Arts district. The houses in these areas are beautiful. Everywhere else we went was full of liter and tent cities. We attempted to go to the overlook park and night but were quickly turned around when we saw how many people had set up for the night here. Our city has a large homeless community as well (not quite as large as Portland) so we are used to that sort of thing, but it may be a little jarring for some.amberUnited States - Scored 6.06.0

To be fair, we didn’t see much. What we did see was dirty and teeming with homeless. We could not, would not, go out after dark. Even on the hotel property we didn’t feel safe. Getting around was okay, thanks to our navigation system.AAnonymous - Scored 1010

If you have never stayed and visited Portland, you are in for treat. An amazing city. Wonderful food, beer and wine. It has such a positive vibe, and so many things to do. Trying to fit it all in is the challenge. We have visited with and without a car. Both were easy. farmers market on Saturday morning downtown is so nice. Too many restaurants to name. all kinds, all price ranges, that is what we like about it. Killer happy hours.
