The shop owners are an elderly couple who are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Staying here feels just like being at home. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, with all the necessary amenities. The husband even told us to feel free to drink as much wine as we like. The kitchen is fully equipped. This is a warm and cozy place where you'd want to stay forever.

Despite the confined (but comfy) space you're relegated to there was a solid sense of privacy. I think it was a full dorm (6-7 other people) during my stay but it was surprisingly quiet and everyone was respectful of each other's space. The shower and restroom are separated from the sleeping quarter so it stays surprisingly quiet throughout the night. Staff is friendly, accommodating, and fluent in English. As seen in the photos, the sleeping space for the dormitory is quiet small but I (5'7'') was able to sleep very comfortably with room to spare. For a short term stay as a solo traveler, this place can't be beat.

Kumano Backpackers er staðsett í Tanabe og býður upp á sameiginlega setustofu og sameiginlegt eldhús. The location is excellent and the owner was so nice! She supplies tons of snacks and teas in the house and even gave me bread and fruit. There's also peanut butter and jelly in the fridge so you can make yourself a sandwhich.

I felt very welcome, and the owner helped me a lot for my trip. I loved the interior of the Guesthouse.Its design is in the details. Koji gave me a lot of information about day trips on Kumano Kodo, also about the good Izakaya in Kii Tanabe. A place that comes with my highest recommendation!

Set in Tanabe and with Tanabe Ogigahama Beach reachable within 1.2 km, ゲストハウス 汀 Guesthouse NAGISA offers a garden, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a shared lounge. Great place to start and/or finish your Kumano Kodo hike! It’s very close to the Tanabe station, good value for money, the owner is very friendly (speaks English) and goes the extra mile to help you if you have questions about your hike or travels, and the bed is comfortable. I’d come back for sure!
