The historic Marina district rises at the foot of the medieval Castle, down to the central part of the great port of Cagliari. Numerous are the historical and artistic landmarks, starting with the remains of the Roman Caralis which stretched under the current district, up to the numerous churches whose magnificent domes still rise high today among the roofs. Since ancient times inhabited mainly by fishermen, merchants and all those who worked at the harbour, the neighborhood is still an important business center of the city, home to numerous institutional buildings, companies and shops.
