Gekkou-an welcomes you to a privately-owned traditional Kyoto townhouse (kyomachiya) housed in two properties with different personalities — the East Building Garden Suite and West Building Luxury Suite. (The facilities in each property are different, so please check the images in advance.) The Kyoto Perspective A recently renovated traditional-style Kyoto townhouse with over a hundred years of history, done with efforts to make the space into “one of the highlights of a visit to Kyoto.” Traditional craftsmen and long-established shops work together to create genuine Kyoto art, to produce a unique Kyoto experience only found here. Please enjoy your valuable stay. The Machikado Health Promotion Network Administration has certified Kyoto Ryokan Gekkou-an as a first-rate “qualified for good sleep inn (nemuri ni ii yado).” Clearing all 45 strict screening standards, Kyoto Ryokan Gekkou-an was recognized for its “pleasant sleeping environment” — a point we are especially committed to offering at the highest standard.
The East Building is a 100-year old kyomachiya renovated to preserve the traditional townhouse as much as possible, stay in the city just as a Kyoto local would. In the entrance is a mural, Happiness Lotus, painted by the well-known artist Hideki Kimura, which will welcome you to enjoy a unique stay in Kyoto. Please refer to the images of the East Building Garden Suite for more information on its facilities. The West Building is furnished with high-quality facilities created by craftsmen skilled in traditional techniques passed down through generations. The building's walls, including within the bathroom, have been hand-painted by artisans to create a kyomachiya that fuses tradition and modernity. We also present you with many artworks that can only be experienced at Gekkou-an, including Moon and The Water God created by a traditional Kyoto papercraft artist, tiles crafted by a Kyoto potter, and Wind God and Thunder God made by a gold leaf artisan hailing from a long-established studio. Along with welcome service, a concierge will assist at the time of check-in to help make your stay in Kyoto more comfortable. Please enjoy a comfortable and unforgettable stay at Gekkou-an.
Gekkou-an is located 7 minute walk from JR Nijo and Subway Nijo Station. There is a quiet residential area. Great access to all major sightseeing spots and downtown area. There are several restaurant with a famous and popular. Especially ''YAKINIKU RESUTANT'' is recommended which has name recognition. We will help the reservation. There are everything within 10 min walk. Supermarkets, convenience stores, drugstores, liquor store, movie theater, bicycle rental,etc.. Night holiday clinics to cope with foreigners is available for 24 hours. It sits quietly and elegantly in the center of Kyoto. You can rent a whole house, feel like living in Kyoto.
