We are happy to be your host for this lovely apartment in the historic centre of Amsterdam. Built in 1657 and reputedly Rembrandt's studio in the Jordaan, this is a truly special home in the city. The entire property was recently renovated to a high standard and is very comfortable. We live in the upper part of the house and are available if you need any help or information. We aim to provide everything you need for a memorable stay. The house is a designated "Rijksmonument", recognition given only to buildings of the greatest historical significance. It is a privilege for us to live here. Because we're in the heart of the city, please be aware that you'll hear street noise, church bells and traffic. And as a Rijksmonument, secondary glazing is not permitted so our ability to muffle sound is limited. If you want peace and solitude then a newer building in a quieter, less central part of Amsterdam might be better. Originally from the UK, we have been resident in Amsterdam for nearly 10 years and love it here. It's hard to imagine a better place to live. As well as offering space in our home via our B&B permit, Neil teaches MBA strategy classes and runs a small wine school. Jonathan is a travel writer. We are lucky to be very widely travelled and spent 10 years living in the USA (in San Francisco and more recently New York City) before moving to the Netherlands. We enjoy being back in Europe but understand what it can be like to visit somewhere new. So we are very happy to help you around and give you some fun local tips. As a gay couple ourselves, LGBTQI visitors and their families are frequent guests but of course all are very welcome in our home. The location of our place is absolutely terrific; at the intersection of the charming Jordaan neighbourhood, the historic Canal Ring and the boutiques and cafes of the Nine Streets. Everything the city has to offer is just steps away from your front door. As you'll see from the reviews, it really couldn't be better if you want to stay in the historic centre of the city. The apartment is situated on the corner of two famous canals, the Prinsengracht and the Bloemgracht. You have views on these canals from every window in the apartment. The Jordaan itself is know for its charming architecture as well as its many places for dinner, shopping, drinks etc. It has great shops and a fabulous organic market every Saturday. For basic groceries, an Albert Heijn grocery shop is very close by, only a 2-minute walk. Across the street, there is the Anne Frank House and the famous Westerkerk. There is a tram stop less than 5 minutes away and you can walk to Centraal Station in just 20 minutes
