The chef at Jogakura is really good - I had dinners there throughout my stay and found the flavours and textures skilfully executed, with an impressive range of both traditional Japanese and western fare. The food portion is also on the more manageable side, which is great. The open air bath was also delightful and I could not get enough of lying down in the hot bath while enjoying the winter scenery and feeling the snow fall on my face.
Service was super attentive, especially by the staff that serve dinners - they discreetly look out for and pre-empt your needs, they are quick on their feet and very polite.

The town is outside of the main area of Aomori and is a small beachside area. It was very quiet with minimal options for dinner available as the Ryokan was not serving meals at the time that we went. A young couple have opened a craft brewery across the road and there is an authentic ramen restaurant a few doors down. There is a small cafe called Apricot, across the road run by a lovely husband and wife.
The ryokan was lovely. The staff friendly, the onsens were great and you were able to book a private onsen without a problem.
The rooms were well equipped and view from the room was lovely.

The dinner was sumptuous, with many live stations to reduce wastage. I enjoyed the live performance, which introduced me to unique local music and instruments as a foreigner. The staff was very helpful and polite. The single room is small but just right, and I enjoy watching the trains pass by.

We were pleasantly surprised to find hot water and tea ready for us, along with a delightful Japanese treat, upon our arrival on both days of our stay. This thoughtful touch made us feel immediately welcomed. Despite the language barrier, the staff was incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure all of our needs were met. We felt well taken care of throughout our stay and truly appreciated the excellent service.
Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.
The staff are very nice and polite.
The hotel is clean and tidy.
Onsen (hot spring) and washing clothes are free of charge (drying clothes is charged ¥100 per 20 minutes).
The breakfast is delicious.
Loved the hot springs and the nebuta decorations. The location is fantastic also. The free amenities are always appreciated greatly also. I love Dormy inns and frequently stay at them as I completely trust it will be a good stay.
I like the guesthouse is surrounded by the nature, the closest train station is Asamushi station, it’s about 5-6 stops away from Aomori station. The guesthouse owner Taku can offer pick-up/drop-off at Asamushi station. BTW, Asamushi is famous for onsen(hot spring). Since the house is in the middle of nature so there’s no restaurants or convenience stores nearby, but you can purchase dinner and breakfast, Taku’s wife, Kaori, makes very delicious and healthy food, must try it!
Firstly I should say the staff were all very kind. The ladies in the dining room were especially so and created a very happy atmosphere. The hot spring baths were very warming on a snowy day, as were the evening ramen bowls. Great breakfast too, with delicious Aomori apple. Very clean and modern hotel.
The traditional feel of the onsen and a room overlooking the garden. Clean comfortable room and a nice outdoor onsen. A quick walk to the station. Tasty ryokan dinner.
Location is great! A few steps from the train station. Our room is Japanese style with sea view. Dinner was superb! They served Japanese traditional food set with wagyu and seafood buffet. Breakfast's buffet lines were impressive as well!! Onsen has two big indoor pools and one outdoor pool. Hot spring water is also serviced at our room's bath tub!! We were very happy!!!
Large and very varied Onsen (hot spring), with multiple types of mineral waters and relaxation spaces.
tasty breakfast, with a self-service bar containing a variety of healthy & local foods as well as standard "English Breakfast" options... good areas to relax in, and generally a gentle and modern but slightly traditional atmosphere.
good set of facilities right next to the hotel, such as restaurants and a traditional fish-market within a few buildings of the entrance.
