Built in 1854, this hotel was once the High School of Stirling. Less than 10 minutes’ walk from the city’s historic castle, it has an AA Rosette-awarded restaurant. Perfect location, within walking distance of the castle and old town. Staff were great, especially Pat who took us up to see the old telescope on the hotel roof. Room was big, comfy and quiet. Pool was great and breakfast very tasty.

Set in Aberfoyle, Macdonald Forest Hills Resort has a fitness centre. All rooms feature a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a private bathroom. The resort has a terrace and a hot tub. The atmosphere and the location also the size of the apartment was good
