Set on a thin strip of land that separates Lake Siutghiol from the Black Sea, Mamaia is a lively summertime destination in Romania that attracts beach lovers and partygoers. Its fantastic location gives visitors a picture-postcard view of sunrises over the sea and sunsets into the lake.
Holidays in Mamaia are characterised by its sandy shores and lounge bars. The warm seawater is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. If you simply want to relax, you can read a book, sunbathe or walk barefoot on the soft sand. You’ll find yourself surrounded by beachfront bars, clubs and eateries where you can enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood.
The proximity of this seaside resort town to Constanța gives travellers the option to get away from the beach to explore the historical side of Romania. You can also make your way to Techirghiol – a small town situated half an hour away from Mamaia – to pamper yourself with a therapeutic mud treatment that is recommended for skin healing and hydration. If you’re looking for something close by, take a ferry ride to Ovidiu Island that rests on Siutghiol Lake.

For me it's good to stay outside the normal season, preferably spring or autumn, not summer. Then the prices are OK and the place is almost empty, good to come for rest and relaxing outdoor activities.

I recommend the Ambasador hotel, they had spacious rooms overlooking the beach. The area is quite quiet where you can relax by the sea. For food, I recommend the 2 restaurants we visited: Glamorous by the sea and Barrels PUB.

A nice place to visit during season, as if you go off season it will be a bit deserted. You have three different regions in Mamaia, one where the fair is, there is a bit crowded but the prices for food are more ok, second is the middle part( here the downside is the bicycle lane that goes right thru the middle of the waking area so you always need to pay attention not to get hit) , where you have some nice restaurants but if you want to go to the water it will take for ever as the beaches where enlarged and the third one is Mamaia Sat where the hotel look a bit nicer, the water is close by, but the prices are the highest.

Family beaches with sun beds and umbrellas for rental are great but you can just put your towel down and swim too. Excellent for evening walks and lots of good music available, like Princess Beach Club and Nuba Club.

Long beaches, large enough the width of the beaches, nice modern buildings....from a distance, all are good! But, come to the closer, try to drive between buildings, big shock! There is no asphalt road, no side walk, nothing, there is no surface clean and green! All you can see, stone, sand, and dust!...Beach sand quality, sea water quality are poor. Restaurants near beaches are not enough and also expensive.
