The Jeep Avenger has just gotten a whole lot cheaper in the UK thanks to the introduction of combustion-powered variants that will sold alongside the pre-existing electric vehicle.

Whereas the electric version of the Avenger starts at £34,800 (~$44,200), the new entry-level petrol version is available from £23,600 (~$30,000), allowing it to undercut the £25,640 (~$32,600) Ford Puma and the £23,965 (~$30,500) Volkswagen T-Cross.

Found beneath the hood of the petrol version is a compact 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder shared with other Stellantis products and pumping out 99 hp and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm) of torque. It comes exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission and returns an impressive 50.4 mpg over the combined cycle.

Shoppers with a slightly bigger budget can opt for the Avenger E-Hybrid from £25,300 (~$32,100). It too has a 1.2-liter petrol engine that here works alongside a 28 hp electric motor and a six-speed automatic ‘box sending power through the front wheels. It has the same power and torque figures as the petrol version but is slightly more efficient, rated at 57.1 mpg. It also incorporates a regenerative braking system.

While the Avenger e-Hybrid isn’t particularly quick, requiring 10.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 km/h), it can drive on electric power alone for short distances and at speeds under 18 mph (29 km/h).

The Avenger Petrol can be ordered in entry-level Longitude or Altitude guises, the latter of which starts at £25,335 (~$32,200) and comes with various upgrades like a larger 10.25-inch infotainment display, 17-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, and automatic climate control.

Jeep is offering the Avenger e-Hybrid in three trim levels, starting with the £25,300 (~$32,100) Longitude and including a £27,000 (~$34,300) Altitude model and a £29,200 (~$37,100) Summit model. Differentiating the Summit from lesser variants are 18-inch wheels, full LED lights front and rear, a 180-degree reversing camera, 360-degree parking sensors, a wireless charging pad, and level 2 semi-autonomous driving technologies.
