Coat of arms

Shield Argent, a rooster passant proper, armed Or, tongued Gules with comb Gules.
Meaning:
Please note that Klemens Stadler blazoned the rooster as Sable, as it probably was in a former version of the arms. The arms are based on the family arms of the local Selesse kin in Junkerndorf estate, who became extinct at the end of the 15th century. The pattern was known from prints of seals from the 14th and 15th century. The colours have been chosen arbitrarily, as they had been unknown.
The arms were approved in 1934 by Prussian Minister of State.

Letter Coat of Arms

Shield Vert, an urn Or between a bar Argent in chief and an embowed bar Argent in base.
Meaning:
The urn is referring to the long time colonisation and to a Cheruscian settlement. The urn had been among the objects found during excavations. The bar is symbolising Mittelland Canal, the v-shaped embowed bar Leine River surrounding the municipality, which was first mentioned in 1178.
The arms were approved in 1948 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony.
